Hi guys,

I am looking to upgrade my setup and am currently using a 28 inch Samsung UHD monitor. I am currently contemplating whether to purchase an ultrawide monitor or a dual monitor for my setup. From what i've seen most people have a dual monitor setup however has anyone had any experience using an ultrawide monitor?

you might have issues with tiling enough tables vertically with an ultrawide
I would try to find a x1440p one
but then again, that's what ppl are saying, I've never owned an ultrawide to try out

I think you're going to get a lot more pixels for a lot less money if you buy two small monitors than one big one.

How much desk space do you have? If you have the desk space, you can run an ultrawide and keep your current monitor as a secondary.

What scaling are you currently running your 28" 4K at? With scaling other than 100%, there's a difference between physical pixels and screen real estate. If you're running a UHD monitor at 200% scaling, your screen real estate is the same as a 1920x1080 monitor but with much nicer rendering due to oversampling.

I have and love a 34" Asus 21:9 ultrawide that I love (replaced a 32" 4k).
There are a few different flavors of ultrawide.

There are 21:9 ultrawide that are roughly 1/3 wider than a 16:9 with the same vertical pixel count. I'm not a fan of the x1080 models, the 3440x1440 have enough vertical space to be pretty useful but I had hoped to hold our for a 21:9 x2160 model (still waiting for those to drop). One thing to keep in mind is just how wide these are. I had to rearrange my desk and buy stands for my speakers when I bought my 34" 21:9. Check the measurement specs and break out a tape measure before ordering.

Then there are 32:9 models (and maybe a few even wider). These are defacto 2x16:9 monitors side by side with no bezel in between. You can run stuff maximized across the whole thing, but in my mind these are most useful for replacing 2 normal wide monitors. I don't have personal experience with these.

My general monitor thoughts: 2 monitors > 1 monitor. 1 large monitor > 2 small monitors (>=24"). I prefer to buy 1 nice monitor at a time and then demote my previous monitor to secondary. Having a really high quality main monitor is super useful for general usage.
