Display Problem: Ubuntu using HDMI cable Display Problem: Ubuntu using HDMI cable

I had a system built with all the new bells and whistles Core i7, 64GB Ram, GeForce GTX 1070 graphics card

I set up Ubuntu 18.10 without internet service (from thumb drive)

The problem I've having is with adjusting screen resolution, mostly due to the cpu not recognizing the "size of gamma for output default" which is repeated in several error messages

I've used xrandr --addmode 1600x900_60.00 and managed to get that resolution size on my Display settings, but I get a message that 1600x900 can't happen because the minimum and maximum for resolution is 1024x768

I'm connecting the system to a 55in LED TV (60Hz), but I can't get the edges of the screen to show up. I can use it this way, but I'd rather have the ability to change the resolution so the display fits fully into the screen.

If anybody has a knowledge on how to make this happen I'd appreciate it.

Apologies if there is a thread on this subject already. I looked but found none. Thanks
