Hello,

I have read the FAQ, but it mostly deals with buying desktops for playing poker, which is not what I need, so I decided to open the thread. If, for some reason I just broke a rule, feel free to lock the thread.

Here’s the question: I want to purchase a gaming desktop. My budget is about 800-900€ (I live in Italy).

Unfortunately, I am somewhat of a noob when it comes to these things, and I don’t know whether I should built a pre-made case or buy all the pieces separately. I know that I will probably need a large memory and a SSD, but I don’t know what else to look for.

Should I build a pre-made case? In that case, what should I be looking for?
Should I buy all the parts instead? In that case, could anyone give me an advice regarding the configuration?

Should I get an i7, or is i5 enough? Which graphic card would fit my budget and be good for gaming?

Thanks for the patience and sorry for the tl;dr.

Thanks for the link!

I’ve noticed that I own only one of the videogames from that site’s drop-down list (Witcher 3). I mostly play cRPGs like Pillars, Divinity: Original Sin and the like. Also, strategies like Shadow Tactics (that -and DA Inquisition) was the game my old PC had the most problems with. Maybe I am overestimating the requirements I am going to need. Will investigate.

The easy ones: i5 8500 16GB of RAM, two ssds, a 256GB for OS, a 1TB for game installation and doucments.

The tricky ones: The video card. Depends on what games you want to play, along with the resolution of the monitor. If your monitor is 1080p, best value is probaly radeon rx480/rx580.

Do bear in mind, there are some new cpus/video cards coming out over the next couple of months. 9 series intel and 2080 nvidia gpu.

If you want to game in 4k and/more demanding titles, you re probably looking at a 1080 or something of that caliber.
