My current computer is a dinosaur, but with 16gb of RAM and an old school Intel quad core processor I can get 6 android emulators running reasonably well simultaneously. I'm looking to design a PC that will considerably increase this to at least 12 but have no idea how to go about doing this.
I've been told that I should be looking for a processor with multiple cores and threads as the PC should 'see' these as separate processors and enable it to run multiple emulators. Is this true? And is there any way we could ascertain how many emulators a given processor would be capable of running before I purchase one? It would be nice to see the potential upgrade I am getting before I purchase.
If this is the case then despite Intel being faster I should look to use AMD as they generally have a higher core/thread count (albeit presumably each one operating at a lower efficiency)?
You might try looking around for a board with people running a lot of emulators and see what they say. It may be a bit specialized for the computer help section of a poker bulletin board system...
Maybe, but I've done a lot of searching and the majority of threads/questions/advice I've found regarding this has come from poker players. I even found a thread from here (with 0 replies) that was hinting at the same thing.
I imagine there are a lot of poker players currently trying to 'solve' this problem.
You might try posting it in the Programming forum's OT thread, I think it has more active developers than CTH and they might have better leads. There is also the Commercial Software and Software forums under "Internet Poker" on the side board if you haven't found them yet.
What are android emulators being used for that has anything to do with poker?
