I just got pack into play poker. My main desktop that I use for gaming, freelance design work and everything else is what I'm currently playing Pokerstars MI on. Ryzen 3600, 2060 Super, 16GB ram, NVME, etc.

Just kicking around the idea of having a dedicated poker pc to keep everything separate and more secure. I don't have a ton of desk space and putting a normal Microatx tower next to my main pc I'm an inch or two shy of space (and can't really expand much more to the side given the room layout).

So I was looking at picking a Dell Optiplex SFF which are only about 4" wide and using that. I've found i5-4570 models for <$100 shipped on eBay. I have 2x8gb sticks of DDR3 left from an old build an a 120GB SSD I could slide in there. The only thing I'd probably need to purchase is something like a GT710 or other slim GPU as my main display is 1440p and most of the Dell's don't support that over HDMI (want to use the HDMI input on my LG).

I'm not opposed to building something however given the price to performance ratio (sounding like Tech Yes City here ) I think it'd be hard to beat. I do have an AMD FX-8370E, mobo and the above mentioned RAM I could try to find a slim case. I kind of feel dirty as I haven't bought in a PC in 20 years everything I've built.

The only thing I'd be running in the background is Holdem Manager and maybe a browser streaming music from Youtube music. I'm way off from solvers and all this other stuff I read on here.

Thoughts? I'm 4 tabling currently FYI.

if security is your concern, you could just make a new user for poker with 0 admin privileges, just poker clients, hud and w/e essential you need. or run a VM, that will act as a separate computer.

^ that but im wondering where the concerns come from. it seems like hacking issues are extremely rarely, if ever, through the actual poker client.

Not really concern of the poker client but more if I get a virus, keylogger, etc

I guess I could look into virtual machine. Still guessing keylogger/virus could be an issue in that environment as well.

I might just be paranoid lol

vm, never download anything but the essentials, don't go visit the naughty sites, don't check your mail there / click on adds and you're set

yeah i would say pretty paranoid. it sounds like your work info is gonna be more important than your poker accounts, so simply adding poker clients wouldn't increase your risk at all.

also, if you got 2 computers, you'd have to deal with 2 sets of peripherals or switching back and forth or something.. seems like a big hassle.

Ight I will lay off the paranoia lol

I have my design work and other critical files backed up into the cloud and some of it locally.

I need to reconfigure my NAS to get that going again.

You don't need two sets of peripherals. You can just use one of these - dead easy.

Ya I already have a kvm I used to use to switch between a work and personal pc.

Just going to run one pc for now. I used my other parts and a RX580 I had and put that in a spare case earlier today. Going to mine crypto and make a $5 bucks a day given how high things are right now. Just sticking in a corner as I don't need a monitor for it and just remote desktop to it. Not going to get rich but better than the parts sitting in boxes.
