Interestingly, a couple of days ago my MB was targeted... I use the email for wallets and poker accounts only. If you wish to compare details, PM.

I ran the port scanner thing, everything was secure.

Din't want to create a new thread about this, so I hope it's okay if I ask here. I googled what dllhost.exe is and it says that this file should be in system32 folder only, but I have such process in sysWOW64 folder as well, should I be worried? I run win7 x64, thank you.

Many thanks for making these videos, funkyworms. I've been working through them and I had no idea how poor my security was for my PC.

I had a couple of quick questions:

Is http://www.techsupportalert.com a reliable site for information? I've been using a couple of articles like these to set up Comodo Internet Security and Firefox:

http://www.techsupportalert.com/cont...o-firewall.htm

http://www.techsupportalert.com/cont...y-concerns.htm

Also, if I live alone (single PC not on any local network) and no one is going to be physically in my room while I'm using my PC, is KeePass still better security-wise as opposed to cutting and pasting passwords from a Word document I have stored on a USB stick which I plug in now and then? To protect against theft or somebody gaining physical access when I'm not there is password-protecting the PC (using XP Pro) enough, or is even a decent password easy to crack and Keepass is still going to be useful here?

Sorry if this has been discussed before. I'm pretty incompetent when it comes to computers so any help would be appreciated. I've just recently started using Skype a lot and in the past couple months have talked to a few people who I have never met in real life and clicked on a couple links from our discussions that they sent me. My question is, does anyone know the potential destruction that can be caused from clicking on a link that has a virus. I remember reading a thread somewhere that a player believed he got his comp hacked because of Skype and the guy was able to disconnect him while playing. I have no idea if this is a load of bull or not. What I do know is that I've been on the same Internet for 2 years and never had a problem with the connection. Just recently, I've had really eerie instances where my tables I'm playing on keep disconnecting and reconnecting. All the while my Internet explorer is working perfectly and the poker site says everything was perfect on their end. These disconnections have happened 4-5 different sessions recently whereas I never remember them happening before I used Skype. I'm probably just being paranoid but would like to know if it's even possible. Also, can the hacker gain access to all your important passwords and logins from an infected link that he sends you? - I don't have Skype or any programs running while playing. Thanks for any info regarding this matter.

If a hacker has root access to your system they can do just about anything. Do you run Windows under the Admin account, or limited user? You should be running a limited user account.

If you're worried about being infected by malware, go through Gabethebabe's sticky and post a thread.

Don't click random links strangers send you.

Also interested in this. I was told by an IT guy at work that Microsoft security essentials, malware bytes and peer block are sufficient security measures as far as programmes go.

No since it the very basic of the basic. I would use windows tools since it free and easy to update. Since avg is only anti-virus.

People who gamble/play poker online must be in the highest percentage of people likely to be hacked. I have had my email accounts hacked for the 4th time in the last few months. The problem is my email account was linked to an email account that was closed down years ago. When I get back in hotmail says wait 28 days to change security info. Anyways today I was hacked again. I have finally been able to recover all my accounts and add a mobile telephone number to enable two step verification. That means that if someone wishes to access a hotmail account from a different device they will need to enter a code that gets sent via text message to the registered mobile account.

I strongly advise anyone who has not got their email accounts backed up to a mobile phone with two step verification to do so. There are so many scumbags targeting online poker players via skype etc etc

You have had your laptop for a few months and this is the first time you have run a scan?

FWIW, when I run a surface scan, it doesn't take that long, but a deep scan takes a lot longer.

It's not good but MSE should have removed it for you.

I don't really use my laptop for too much random browsing! I have done some scans with AVG but decided to switch to MSE after reading this thread. Some good advice in this thread and kudos to OP. More and more we use the internet nowadays and carry out more financial transactions by the day. I should have secured my laptops a long time ago!

I'd bite the bullet in terms of time and run a deep scan to see if there are any more beasties lurking about.

hacktool:win32/keygen is a key generator that is used to license software installed without buying a license (tut, tut, tut )

Generally they are nothing to worry about - antivirus software detects it because people shouldn't be using them.

oops. haha.

still baffled as to why I have been selected for relentless hacking of email/skype. i doubt it is someone i know personally as they have been on skype asking for funds to be transferred etc

I think your first scan took longer than what was implied because it is expected you would have done the first scan days, if not hours, of having gotten the computer instead of years, or even months, down the road.

Have you run through the malware sticky on this forum? It is better than any running any single antivirus software.

I wish the OP of the malware sticky the best, hope he is able to soon rejoin us, and update the sticky for Windows 8 and Windows 8.1.
