Cannot Log into Gmail Account... Wrong Recovery Email Address Cannot Log into Gmail Account... Wrong Recovery Email Address

Hi mods. I know im suppose to post in the thread dedicated to my questions but im posting it in a new thread because this is urgent as i cannot access my primary gmail account and i have very sensitive documents there. Yes i know you are not suppose to post sensitive important documents in a cloud but i needed it there as backup in case something happens to my computer etc. I also did encrypt certain documents but some i did not so im worried about this.

I recently had cleared my chrome history on my laptop. I also flew to another country as well so that is probably the reason as im logging into the gmail account with the new ip address. But this is an ip address that i have used before but it was a long time ago. When im trying to log into my gmail account, i had put in my password which is correct. But it then ask me to type in the recovery email address to confirm. I looked at it and i had a few gmail accounts which has to be the recovery account. I typed it in and it said that is not correct. Then i typed in another email and it was not correct. I then got locked out of my account for too many attempts.

It also gives you another option as in answer your security question. However, that question i could not answer because i had this gmail account for a very long time already. I tried it a few times and it was not correct etc.

I waited a while to log into the account again before i could attempt to log in again. I did and put in the few recovery emails that it could be and it was not correct. The thing is the other emails that i logged into such as gmail and yahoo etc... i could log in and they all ask me what is my recovery email and i typed in either this email or that email and it worked. But this primary email i cannot log in. This is the email that i also did log in on the same day before i flew. However that should be no issue since the problem seems to be to type in the recovery email?

The other thing is i even got a message to my phone in the google hangouts app that is connected to my email that google has blocked someone with the password for my gmail account from signing in to the account. I believe i got this when i tried to log into gmail from my computer. So does this mean i could log into my google/gmail account on my phone then? The thing is i need to have access my google/gmail account from my computer. And has anyone who has google voice/hangouts had this message received on their cell? Im certain its not a phishing attempt because that message was when i tried to access the gmail account myself when trying to login.

Someone else suggested click on forget your password and then it would send a recovery email to the email that is connected to that email. But has anyone done it that way? I dont want to attempt one way and then get the message too many attempts try again and i might have to try again much later etc. I have gotten my account locked again a few times due to too many attempts. The thing is i read people have issues where they forgot their password and maybe their recovery email. I have my account username and password. But the account recovery email i need to type is not correct. I do not know how this is even possible because it has to be one of a few only. Really appreciate if someone who had this issue can tell me what is my best step here.

If your only options are a security question you can't answer, and a recovery email that's still valid (what do you mean the recovery email i need to type is not correct?), then I think you have to go with the recovery email. If the email was changed, then your account got hijacked and you're boned.

No 2FA? Didn't set up a recovery phone? Didn't set up a list of typed-out/printed recovery codes?

Don't you have cryptocoins? You had to have been aware of this.

When im trying to log into my gmail account, i had put in my password which is correct. But it then ask me to type in the recovery email address to confirm. I looked at it and i had a few gmail accounts with similar spelling etc. I typed it in and it said that is not correct. Then i typed in another email and it was not correct. Im not 100 percent sure but i might have misspelled one letter by mistake etc.

Does anyone when i can log back into my gmail account? When it said wait few hours to attempt again because of too many attempts. Well i waited at least 7 hours etc and i got that message again that account is locked. My password is correct though. Can someone tell me how long i have to wait to try again or is there someone i could contact/email on this issue? It does show my contact recovery email partially such as imagine my recovery email was say paulyjames900909090@msn.com. Well it would display something like paul......0@msn.com and want you to fill in the rest etc. But i have several emails that look like the one shown but it said it was not correct and it must have been due to me adding a letter in by mistake.

How long do i have to wait until i could log into gmail account from my computer? I mean it was 7 hours already at least until i attempted to log in again. And has anyone who has google voice/hangouts had this message received on their cell?

When i tried to log into my other gmail and other accounts, i got message we detect unusual activity etc since its a new ip address. The thing is i have used this ip address because but it was a long time ago etc. My other email accounts i have no issues because when it asked me for recovery email related to it, i typed in the right one. But this is my main gmail account.

Ok, so the account wasn't hijacked (likely, unless someone else changed it to a similar name and number combination to trick you out) - you just don't know what your recovery email is?

The security question is a question where i tried to answer it but it was incorrect. Again this is a very old email so i could have just typed in anything for the security question.

I meant after i typed in my gmail address and then typed in my gmail password which is correct, it then says google does not recognize this device and then it shows the first few letter/number of my recovery email. Its say xxx................@gmail.com. So i have to type my recovery email in to confirm it. I typed several emails that had to be the recovery email for my primary email account but they are not correct and then after many tries, my account gets locked for a while. My other gmail and yahoo email when i log in, they also ask for my recovery email for that particular gmail account and when i enter the right one, i log in without any issue. They basically do not let me get into my primary gmail account without giving them my recovery email address for that specific gmail account. However, my recovery email has to be one of the ones i typed... it cannot be any other email. Also the beginning letters/numbers of it is exactly the same @gmail.com.

Well if my email was changed, then why does it seem like i could log in with my password then? Because wouldn't it say my password is incorrect? Thus if someone else got into my gmail account, first thing they would do is change my password? I never had 2FA on my gmail account. The reason being in case i lose my phone. I use another phone now and have for a while already.

This email address was created a very long time ago.

Okay so based on my crosspost, then you believe my account is still okay right based on what i wrote down?

Well the recovery email according to google is not correct. I do not know how this is possible. Its only a few email addresses i could. So unless someone changed it, then thats the reason? However how would this be even possible then since they would have already changed my password?

So unlike other people who get locked out of their gmail account, i know what my password is. Its just the recovery email is incorrect. For example when i checked my other emails, i check to see what is my recovery email. All of those use one or the other email as the recovery email. Thus my primary email that i cannot log into gmail, it has to be one of the other ones. Unless i didn't put one? Is that possible? If so, what do i type there? However, it does show xxx..................@gmail.com.

There seems to be an option to click forget password. I watched a video on youtube where it shows someone typing in wrong password and had them sent a verification code to it and then they typed it in and was able to create a new password.

Does anyone know if that would work or has tried this method? I dont want to try it in case this makes my account completely frozen.

Also there is a link for google account recovery where people say you type in your last password that you remember for gmail. Now should i do this instead? If so, do i just put a random password or one that is very old? Again i do not remember what my old password for it was but i could take a guess. But obviously do not put the correct password? But based on all this information i have given, i assume my account is not compromised right since the password i typed in ... is correct? Because if it wasn't, then it would say password not correct?

Hey all. I notice that when i click hangouts and click on manage accounts on my iphone, im able to turn on my primary email address. I turned that one on and now i have access to my emails on the gmail mail app. So basically i can check my email now at the moment.

However, how would i be able to view my documents then on google drive? I need to access my google drive documents. The thing is those documents are with openoffice, microsoft word etc and i do not want to open those on my phone because its way too tiny. I want to open it on my laptop. So does anyone have tips on what i should do now? Obviously i will not log out of my gmail account on my iphone But what can i do to where i could log into my google/gmail account on my laptop then?

Could i change my recovery email address or could i check what it is and fix the security settings? Im not sure if i could do this on the gmail app on my iphone.

I totally get your frustration – being locked out of your Gmail account is like a digital nightmare, especially when you've got sensitive stuff hanging in the balance. It's happened to me too, and let's be real, it's nerve-wracking.
