Get the 256gb PCIe.M.2 drive, that will be substantially faster.

Roughly the same in price ($60 difference) so I'll go with the superior option. Ram looks to be "8GB (2x4GB) 2666MHz DDR4 Non-ECC" which is the standard for this model as far as I can see. What are the practical differences between the two?
The 1tb drive is bigger, but substantially slower. It's a no-brainer to choose the smaller and much faster drive, IMO.

If you need to store a big chunk of data, use OneDrive/Google Drive/etc. as much as possible, or buy an external drive when you need it.

I have to confess I was disappointed that the XPS15 keyboard included a standard number pad but overall I'm really liking the laptop. It just 'feels' good with a little je ne sais quoi. Solid, sleek, and fast. A modern machine relative to my old Inspiron lol. Great color too. Slowly taking to Windows 10 but the basics have been easy to set up. When I get around to it I need to do a full config and security set and revisit the security for poker players sticky. Time flies, can't believe it was 10 years ago already since funkyworms put that guide together.

I am looking for a small laptop (12" or under) to single table with.

I am looking at that size for the portability and I think a single table will show up large enough on the screen.

I did have an Asus 10.6" convertible which would go from tablet to full laptop but the new one doesn't need to do that. It can stay a laptop.

I am thinking about getting it so I can play on WSOP.com when I am in Vegas and probably ACR when I get home.

Doc,

Do you have a budget?

There's a big choice of laptops up at 13" inch (eg, Dell XPS 13)

Looking at what Amazon (UK) sells in terms of 10" laptops seems to show a whole lot of dodgy-looking brands.

I would say up to $500. I found a 11.6" I wanted to take a look at while in a Walmart, but when I came back with the wife a fellow shopper had collapsed near the laptop and we didn't wait around until after they had tended to her.

The 10.6" I had was an Asus with 2mgb and I think a flash drive.

Doc T River,

Sorry for not precisely matching your initial request here, but if you wanted a very portable device of around 10" to play one-table on WSOP.com when you're on Vegas, and ACR at home, I'd suggest an iPad.

Amazon sells iPad Air for $469, just under your budget - https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07NHNG1GJ...ding=UTF8&th=1

Screen is 10.5", which is on target

WSOP.com appears to have iPad app - http://www.wsop.com/mobile-poker/

ACR appears to support iPad - https://www.americascardroom.eu/mobile-poker/

The only downside of the iPad is that it is harder to type on (since it doesn't have a proper keyboard, compared to your laptop). So, with your $30 saving, you can also get a bluetooth keyboard:

K380 if you want a smaller keyboard - https://www.amazon.com/Logitech-K380...gateway&sr=8-3

K480 if you want to hold your iPad in the cradle - https://www.amazon.com/Logitech-Blue...gateway&sr=8-4

(I have the K380 keyboard, and an older iPad Air 2, it's very good for my needs there)

just want to say I bought the cheapest xiaomi air 12 laptop about a year ago because it was super cheap (about $600 but purchased at a xiaomi store in China so probably more back home) and super light weight.

I bought it for traveling, coffee shops, etc type of stuff and have ended up having it serve as my regular computer because I'm always on the road

I use it for some pretty demanding stuff, which it's very poorly equipped for, yet it still manages. In hindsight, I just wish I realized I'd be using it far more frequently and purchased a better model that could better crunch datasets

would recomend xiaomi to anyone, just don't be an idiot like me and get the cheapest model, spend another $100-200 on more RAM and a better processor, bought it based out of trust because their phones are so legit

only issues with hardware the swivel for the screen feels sketchy (but after a year of constant use, travel and a few drops) is still functioning fine so just more in my head.

Also, the trackpad has recently giving me some fits with drag and drop and right clicking, but I mostly use another mouse anyway so not really a big deal, just can be somewhat annoying when in an airport and you know you're going to have to setup a mouse because you'll have a lot of dragging and dropping and don't want to deal with a janky click. I've seen a video on how to fix it and seems simple enough, just gotta get the right screwdriver.

have run up to 6 tables on ACR with multiple other programs running on the side and it's fine. Beyond that point it I need to either shut down other programs or it starts to freeze up on me a bit. Regular reboots before any poker session has become a de facto process (but with ssd this takes seconds)

I don't think that's a xiaomi issue, just more I have only 4 GB of ram, which will be upgraded once I get around to it.

Love the laptop, will buy again

just be sure you have more than 4 GB RAM and whatever you got will be solid

You can get a refurb Thinkpad x260 with 8GB of RAM and an SSD for $350. Solid business class laptop that should hold up well.

Sorry, I haven't revisited this thread, but I have been having fun elsewhere on 2p2.

I am looking for something bigger than my 10.6" Asus, but smaller than a 13". My wife has a 13" laptop and a 15.6" laptop. Both of them feel too big to me.

It should have an attached keyboard or a keyboard option. I currently post on here using devices with virtual keyboards and it can be a pain.

I guess I should find that laptop, post the specs, and see what you think.

I went to an electronics store after going to a Walmart as I didn't find the laptop I previously saw at another Walmart.

I came across a 11.6" HP Pavilion X360. It has a Pentium processor, 4GB ram, and 128GB SSD. The big issue is the version of Windows 10 is the S version which means I cannot download any software that isn't in the Microsoft store.

So I guess I am still looking.

Slight derail, but why did Microsoft come up with S version of Windows 10?

It seems like it would open them up to a lawsuit from the government for restricting competition by having only software in their store downloadable.

And it is frustrating me.

Doc - I still think the iPad (with a physical bluetooth keyboard) is likely the best option for you.

Because I think you'll get a better combination of mobility and speed with the iPad.

It seems that the laptop PCs around this size use pretty low end processors, and likely worse battery life. The iPad is just a really really good device for this sort of use case as I can understand it.

Benchmarks aren't everything, but they're likely to be useful here.

It looks like a HP Pavilion x360 has a Intel Pentium N4200 in it. It earns a PassMark rating of 2,031: https://www.cpubenchmark.net/cpu.php...00+%40+1.10GHz

An iPad 6 earns 6,424: https://www.iphonebenchmark.net/phon...d+6+%28WiFi%29

There are a bunch of footnotes, the numbers probably aren't precisely comparable, but the iPad processor is just very very very likely to be a faster, better suited for mobile use, and is more portable.

My wife as an iPad, but doesn't have a keyboard although she wants one. I suppose I could get her one and the play around with it to see how I like it.

I could then see about going to a Microsoft store to play around on a Windows machine.

This is a good idea. Bluetooth keyboards I linked above are only $30, and can be used with basically any modern bluetooth device (incl phones, tablets, Amazon Fire TV sticks, computers, etc)

After 7 years another spilt red wine on my MBP (using bootcamp) and it's time for a new laptop. Since I'm going to be in Asia for months at a time, it's a bit of a desktop replacement.

Mainly for Poker and every day stuff, but I will also be using solver so RAM (16gb) and CPU matters. Not hugely tight on price, but XPS15 reviews well but seems excessive, whereas this seems to be a reasonable middle ground. Always nice to have the option for games and stuff, but if anyone has any opinions, cheaper alternatives, would be appreciated. Don't care about 2in1/touchscreen. A higher res maybe preferred, although I assume this will 4 table fine compared to 1900x1200?

Thanks

I'll get my legion y740 tomorrow, I have a MacBook Pro as well but poker in a Mac is just not it.
don't think you can game on xps , as it's supposed to be an ultraportable. there are a lot of good gaming laptops available. However if you're looking for higher battery life than I suppose xps makes sense.

centgas,
Yes - that laptop is likely very fine for what you describe.

The XPS line are typically more "premium" with higher end and smaller, more portable parts, longer battery, etc.

The Inspiron is more middle-of-the-road

It depends what sort of games you're playing, but few laptops are going to be able to play very recent games at very high levels with high framerates, etc.
