I'm looking to buy a new desktop, primarily for playing online poker and running Pio solver. I don't play video games so I'm not sure if buying something with a high end graphics card is worth it? Just want my 32" 4k monitor to run at 4k resolution.

Two options I'm looking at are:

Lenovo IdeaCentre 3i — 12th gen processor, UHD graphic 770, 16GB memory, 512GB SDD storage, 260W power supply — $989.99cnd

Lenovo IdeaCentre 5i — 12th gen processor, NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3060, 16GB memory, 1TB SSD storage, 500W power
supply — $1299.99cnd

My question is, would spending the extra few hundred for the latter model be worth it for me? Will my monitor picture quality look just as good with both desktops(4k res)? I don't mind spending the extra money so long as it will be of some use to me. Thanks for any help you can provide to this computer noob

Either should be ok for poker and some basic to moderately complex solves (without using tons of different bet sizes). Will need additional RAM for more complicated stuff and maybe some spots with really wide ranges. I'd check how much RAM the motherboard can support if you want to upgrade.

The second one seems like a lot better deal - double the storage / power supply / and a $350-$400 (USD) graphics card. That being said there probably won't be much difference in performance playing poker.

If you want to run a solver and play poker, your money should be put into the CPU and RAM (32GB or 64GB). You want an Intel i7/9 or a Ryzen 7/9.
Furthermore, don't buy a prebuilt system with graphics card. You will be heavily overpaying. Due to the end of criptomining, there are oodles of used GPUs on the market.

You will not get any mileage out of the RTX 3060 playing poker. A lot better to get a second hand GTX 1060 or 1660 for really cheap or even stick with the integrated graphics of the Intel or the Ryzen 5700g. That will be sufficient for a non-gamer.

I'll update my advice and say if you're going to play on Stars a good graphics card can help a ton.

I notice a huge difference in smoothness between my basic laptop (11th Gen i5) with integrated graphics (Intel Iris) and 16gb ram, gaming laptop (Ryzen 4800H) with a GeForce 1660ti and 32gb ram... and my desktop Ryzen 5900x with Radeon 6600 64gb ram.

On my basic laptop, with H2N HUD, Stars is somewhere between barely playable and playable using the laptops screen only. Connect my 4K monitors, and forget it. So much lag ... kept getting sat out on multiple tables. The integrated graphics can't handle Stars in 4K (maybe ok on 1080p monitors?). When using HM3 (laptop screen only), Stars was more playable ... but HM3 constantly lagged when trying to use popups, and info frequently wouldn't load fast enough to use it in my decision making.

Haven't tried the gaming laptop with H2N yet. Stars performance was fine with HM3. I assume the performance will be nearly as good as my desktop. Could be wrong though, as H2N does seem to use a lot of resources based on my experience with my basic laptop.

The desktop works smoothly running everything (Stars+H2N+StarsCaption) even with dual 4K monitors.

Reason I am updating my advice is because I have been trying to play on my basic laptop and use the more powerful PCs for solving some things, but this doesn't seem too feasible if you're running H2N.
