Right, but my question is whether the reader will still identify that if the chip is physically removed. Of course if I can't get a definite answer to that, it would be -EV to remove the chip. I'm too far from expiration to experiment.

I stand corrected, but the threat I discussed applies nonetheless. The article I read was talking about chip cards (which I thought were automatically rfid cards). I have a plain chip card.
