ok, partition successfully merged, now showing 931 total gb. during the clone process it seems to have reassigned the nvme as C drive, and renamed the original ssd as E? i guess that would explain seeming to boot from nvme as standard?

i STILL cannot get bios to open through DEL/f11, f2, f6 on boot. not something i almost ever do but its still annoying as it worked as it should after plugging nvme in and before tinkering. just wanted to make sure it was recognized in its current position and it was.

i guess now i can format my 250gb drive and start fresh? or best to just leave it alone as "backup"? or now migrate everything to the boring hdd as backup? or just unplug the hdd and take it out until i ever need it

Unplug it and confirm that booting with just the NVME installed is working, just to be safe. Then you can wipe it or hold it for later reuse.

edit: check the various fast boot and USB initialization options in the firmware. When configured for fastest boot time, some firmware doesn't initialize USB for your keyboard until too far in the boot process to take a key press to enter BIOS/Firmware settings.

ahhhh that may actually be it; i turned on ultra fast boot while i was in there. it seems to not save any time either fwiw.

the keyboard lights up during the screen so i assumed it was "working" but every time just went straight to login lock screen.

yep, that worked. the bios option screen changes slightly, which i never really noticed, but it was able to enter bios on its own again.

for now, since im lazy, i just disabled any other boot option from the list, and it still worked. i know its not a foolproof approach but, again, lazy. i'll try actually removing the drives later. TY!

Was just reading an article about the 5xxx ryzens saying "normal" temps can get up to 90-95c as intended o.O that seems ridiculously hot, since I assume if you can actually hit full load, you'll be using it quite often

It did note a high end cooler could get it to 60-80c but still.. crazy that was by design

There are various stock coolers, depending on the model. The worst one is the Wraith Stealth, which you get with most of the Ryzen 3.

The next one is the Wraith Spire, which a similar (simple) design but a bigger block of metal.

After that comes the Wraith Prism/Max, which actually looks like a real cooler with heatpipes and block of copper.

What I would recommend is to always make a single upgrade for your cooler, if you perform any kind of demanding tasks. Upgrading from stock cooler to another stock cooler is really cheap, because they are found everywhere on the sh market.

I found the wraith prism for 15€ incl shipping, to put on my Ryzen 1600 which came with the Wraith Spire and the Spire will go to my system with the 2200g, which came with Wraith Stealth. The Wraith stealth will end up in my box of unused materials, giving me a spare ventilator and something to throw with if I am frustrated

Any Ryzen CPU that comes with a wraith prism is worthy of a third party cooler

max and prisms are pretty decent, albeit loud
they will do an even better job if you have side mounted fan(s) on your case (like they used to before they all got glass/plastic see through windows)
this is a cheap 20-25$ case I got for my dedicated solver pc (2700x with stock cooling) that I think is exceptional value https://www.riotoro.com/cr-100be

Ryzen 5xxx might very well be hot enough that you want to seriously consider investing in after market cooling (if you get the same last gen blowers), tho if you're not going to OC and you don't mind the noise, surely stock gets the job done, at least up to midrange chips

Ryzen CPUs keep on dropping price on the sh market here in Spain. You can build pretty good systems for quite cheap. I've made some money building and selling 3 PCs and keep an eye on any kind of cheap component.

The 1200 now goes for 30-50€, 1300 for 50-60€, 1500-1600 you can find for 80€-ish, 1700/1800 for 100-120€ if you are patient

The APU's 2200g goes for 40-60€, 3200g for 60-70€ and only the 2400g/3400 refuse to go down much, 2400g for 80€ and the 3400g is very popular and steady at 110-120.

Second generation I see the 2600 sell for 100-110 and also have seen various 2700 for ca. 120€

Third generation 3100 about 100€, 3300 I see very few, 3500 for 120-140€ and a surprising amount of 3600 for sale between 150-200€. I missed out on a 3600x for 150€ which was a 30 minute old ad and I was too late for it

massive thing AMD stepped up so hard or we would've had the same lol 5% increase in performance/year from Intel and Nvidia to go with their ridiculous over inflated margins and **** attitude

a 1700 for 100 eur is an insanely good deal for a work and play pc
boards are cheap, ram is cheap, ssds too
sadly no gpus right now and the sh market is shot as well

Man, a Ryzen 4650G Pro is being offered for 140€
If it could have been a pickup I would have grabbed it even though I wasn't planning on buying any more CPUs

That's a sweet looking chip

I wish the Pro model APUs were easier to track down. I've got a NAS build on the back burner that I need to buy a board and CPU for, but getting something with the perf I want and ECC support for a price I want to pay has proven difficult. AMD is less bad than Intel about product segmentation, all the Ryzen CPUs will do ECC support if the board supports it, but the APUs specifically only support ECC on the Pro models, which seem to have been largely OEM only. I don't particularly want to have to tie up a slot for a GPU in my NAS build.

That's better than what I'm seeing in the US. It's interesting how markets can remain fairly regional for some things.
I found a whopping 2 listings for 2200G/GE Pro's on US ebay, both at $150 which is pretty steep for what you're getting.

I built a desktop for poker back in ~2008. ATX 550w Case and monitors are still working fine. Running unsupported Windows Vista. Is it a good idea to replace the MoBo, CPU, HDD, RAM with stuff from NewEgg and rebuild or something else? I want Windows 10 for poker stuff.

Thanks.

Or should I buy this refurbished for $300:
DELL Grade A OptiPlex 9020 SFF Desktop Computer - 4th Gen Intel® Core™ i5-4570 3.20GHZ Quad CPU (turbo up to 3.60GHz), 16GB Ram, NEW 480GB SSD, DVDRW, Windows 10 Pro 64-Bit - Keyboard/Mouse

If you could tell us what cpu, ram and graphics card you have, that would be swell. But in general, a 13 yo computer can be thrown in the trash, except for maybe the power supply and case

I agree. Trashing it for sure.

I think I'm going to buy a refurbished Dell off Newegg for under $200. Just buying Windows 10 Pro is almost as much a refurbished computer. Any problem with this idea? No gaming.

Errrrr

Windows is cheap. That should not guide your decision. You can download windows 10 and not activate it. You will have almost no restrictions, some silly ones in the personalization of your desktop
The next cheapest thing is to buy a license in a site like nextkeys.io.

Just make sure to not get windows at Microsoft

Also there is Linux. What do you need windows for?

i probably wouldnt even save a psu that old. under $100 for peace of mind that its new and able seems worthwhile if you're throwing all new components at it.

poker meaning just running clients or do you get into solvers and sims too? budget?

not saying a refurb is a bad idea, but esp that 4th gen above is already quite old; you may find yourself wanting more sooner than you'd thought.

I paid $300 for:
Intel I3-7100 ( 3.90Ghz ), 8GB DDR4, 1TB SSD HDD, WiFi, Bluetooth, Windows 10 Pro, 2 display ports

I preferred building my own but parts are way more expensive than a refurb.

trust me when I say if an item is priced lower than everyone else on the platform and the seller is unknown, it's a 100% fake listing
also they're a month old and they list their location in France... have you seen many french sellers on aliexpress?
I'm willing to bet the farm all the other items they "sell" are also priced below the competition
connect the dots

yeah theres definitely a point in sh/rando vendor shopping when you factor in the % scam price and it comes out to be more than buying from someone trusted. ive never used ali, but i cant even imagine the nightmare of trying to get that refunded.

aside, an ex gf decided to be cheap and buy "raybans" from some weird site, received a box with a $5 pair of sunglasses you'd get at a gas station. only got the money back cause the bank credited it...

I have bought a bunch of phones on AliExpress. Xiaomi and all very nicely priced. Only one of them for picked out in customs forcing me to pay duties.

Don't worry, I never buy stuff on the internet without checking out seller feedback. I was buying and selling in the internet when most of you were in your diapers still
