thanks for the suggestion, ye I did consider the Pixel 3a, finally went with a Huawei P30, roughly same price where we live and overall nicer/snappier phone, same size too even tho the screen is 0.5" larger

In center/east Europe, the big players like Apple, Google, 1+ and the top end Samsungs are considerably more expensive than in the US but the mid/high range offerings from most other companies are not so value oriented customers have an even easier time picking

pretty good. i think it was on pivot podcast, they used zuckerberging as a verb, about having no spine with trump/twitter arguments and playing the middle.

It looks nice. I'm glad they didn't build in LEDs or crappy speakers to "gamerfy" it. I'd probably just buy a refurb regular embody, though.
Base just crapped out on my office chair, but I'm going to try to get work to buy me one since I'm full time WFH through at least the end of the year. If not I'll probably get a local Steelcase refurb.

yeah a very sleek and clean look for a gaming chair, but i suppose hm wanted to keep it classy enough. i kinda feel like anyone who wanted an embody already has one, and a $1500 gaming chair is gonna be a hard sell.

i got mine 5 or 6 years ago "used" from a showroom floor, basically new, balance, for around half price. wanted the blue on white/silver but one was sold as i was trying to buy it. but then again i cant see it when im using it and more plain is fine

didnt have anywhere local to try any steelcase before searching for a buy but some do look quite nice

10k with the pc, monitors and peripherals and they send a guy to your house to put it together

Interesting, but I think it would serve as an overly effective form of birth control as a side effect.

do you really need women when you got a couple of weeks with that thing + a fully developed Star Citizen

that gif of the "zero g recline", i can only imagine making use of the cupholders and tilting back. whoops

other than their other links being broken, they have the orion 9000 for sale with a i9-7980xe, from 3+ years ago, and a 2080ti for only $7000. LOL

looking for some nice headphones/headset that the onboard sound on my pc can handle (don't really want to get an amp)

preferably wireless 2.4Ghz so I can walk around thee house, not BT ( would need to buy an adapter and I hear the range on those is crap)
must be light and comfortable and not the bulky clamp the **** out of your head type, either on or over ear (in-ear have never felt good). also prefer open back for soundstage/less heat build up.
got a pair of Sennheiser on ear travel cans now and while they used to be pretty comfy, the padding is almost all gone and they're starting to dig into my ears, also sound is meh
I like a relaxed sound signature, don't need super bass or super studio quality, just nice a nice chill listening experience. I mostly listen to electronic music, not so much vocals
if wired, wouldn't mind a mic, as I understand good mic and wireless don't do well together

budget 150$ max, I'm in central/eastern Europe
10x folks

I'd imagine Jabra Evolve 65 would be excellent. They are wireless and use BT, but come with the dedicated adapter. I live in a ~1000sq ft apartment, and with my PC (almost) in the middle of my apartment, I get good reception everywhere with my Jabra Evolve 75.

The key benefit of the Jabra Evolve 65/75 is the boom mic, it is outstanding for phone calls etc. If you don't need the mic, then Jabra seems to offer great value for money for the wireless world.

The key difference between the 75/65 is that the 75 has active noise cancellation, the 65 does not.

thanks mate, the 65 was actually on the shortlist
now I just need to return these garbo Steelseries "gaming" wireless headset I got on an impulse that sound like a 20$ pair of earbuds and physically hurt my head
will get the Jabras if they're in stock and not overpriced locally, if not prob look for something similar before I order from Germany or France and wait a couple of weeks with this corona craze

ionutd,

does amazon.xyz not serve your country?

nope, smaller European countries don't have their own Amazon, although most sellers on the German and French Amazon will ship pretty much anywhere in EU. it's just that it takes a week if you're lucky and usually you need to go pick it up at the post office and 1h+ long queues are common. might very well take a month nowadays with the lockdowns

$40 difference from skype to UC version, is it really that different?

~$35 for shipping under a week from america isnt too bad if you have friends/w.e here

Since my last post, I've upgraded this slightly:

So, I'm now thinking about my next upgrade. I'm now making a large number of videos for social media, where I need to edit them, recode them, burn in subtitles, etc.

What would give me the best bang-for-my-next-upgrade-money?

both of those are cpu encoding only?
I know some video editing software leverages both gpu and igpu so the KF chips would be at a disadvantage (no igpu on KF)

Yeah, I think so. I'm currently leaning to the i7 9700 for £280, 'cause the extra £120 to add hyper-threading doesn't seem worthwhile to me.

Basically:
£280 = i7-9700 for 8 cores at 3ghz up to 4.7ghz
£400 = i9-9900 for 8 cores/16 threads at 3.6ghz up to 5ghz
~£1,000 = Xeon E5-2687W x2 for 16 cores at 3.4ghz

Not quite comparing apples with apples, etc.

08-12-2020 , 11:53 AM
they dropped hyper threading on that specific cpu?
8700 had it... 6 cores 12 threads

dunno if you need a dedicated workstation as long as you can just plug in a new cpu on that board
mby a new gpu to go along
