What ionutd said. For every account that contains your money, have a different unrecognisable email account and unique password. Use a password manager to store the info. Don't link your private email to any financial account, so that if it is compromised, they still cannot reset passwords, for example.

I have seen with a couple of AM4 motherboards that they (seem to) work perfectly if you use a 4-pin CPU conector, when it actually has an 8-pin CPU connector.

Any idea why it would work and what the other 4 pins are powering?

I think it's for <125w cpus
and the current is more stable when you spread it out on 8 traces but idk how much of a difference it makes for lower powered chips
there are boards that come with 8pin + an additional 4pin and those are for extreme stuff like liquid nitrogen oc

@Scoop, it's not a bad idea to invest in one of these security usb keys to replace text messages or security questions as the 2nd authentication factor. they're like 30$ and can even serve as your passwords actually

I agree - but you need at least two of the keys (in case you lose one).

A key thing I learned when leading the implementation of RSA Security Tokens at PokerStars more than a decade ago: the security of any authentication system is only as strong as the fallback system. If your default login is a security token, but the fallback is just a security question and answer, then you really have no security token.

For building my PCs I have various Gigabyte B450M S2H motherboards (that's an AM4 socket board) and I recently acquired 3 sets of 2x8GB G.Skill Ripjaws V DDR4 RAM (F4-3200C16D-GVR and F4-3000C15D-GVR) only to find out that the system becomes unstable with dual channel memory and activating the XMP profile.

System works fine at XMP with one stick and it works fine with two sticks at base speed 2133MHz
I searched my ass off on the internet and found a thread where some guys recommends to disable Gear Down Mode (which is a mode that suppoosedly makes RAM more stable ) . I didn't know what the **** Gear Down Mode was, but I did so in the BIOS and it appears to be stable now.

I don't want to sell a system and have a customer complaining in less than a week, so I want to throw a bunch of tests at the system to rest assured. Cinebench one minute, Furmark one minute, Windows built in memory test, a couple of minutes Prime 95. All fine.

What would you throw at it to be sure that the RAM is stable? 1h of Prime95? Memtest86? Any recommendations? I cannot seem to find a good mem test program that runs from Windows

Problem ended up as something silly

When activating XMP the board would not increase ram voltage to 1.35. After doing that manually, the system runs totally stable

I find that incredible btw. The data transfer rate of DDR4 3200 is about 25 GB/s. How come the test takes 4h?? You can fill 16GB in less than a second.

It does a range of different tests at the bit-level.

Setting/unsetting individual bits is much more time consuming than just straight copying of blocks of memory from A to B: you have to load a full word from memory, do a bunch of bitwise shifts and logical operations using the CPU, and then copy it back to memory each time.

You also have to go to extra lengths to be sure that you are actually reading the values from RAM rather than the CPU's caches.
