Haven't been on this forum in a while--returning for some advice. Thanks in advance.

After a lot of study I decided I'm going to pull the trigger on a 38 inch monitor. I'm not a gamer, so it will be for poker, browsing the web, Youtube, Twitch, some amateur photo editing, etc. Money is a consideration but I'm willing to go top of the line if I feel it's worth it. A few questions:

1) Any specific recommendations?

2) Thoughts on a higher refresh rate? 60 hz for my purposes enough? I've read plenty of differing opinions on this. Again, I'm not a gamer, but looking for the best grinding experience possible.

Also probably looking to get a new keyboard and mouse, as I do deal with a bit of carpal tunnel like symptoms (too many clicks over the years). Appreciate any thoughts on this as well.

if you're going for a big monitor, you might want to consider getting a TV instead, better $ / screen real estate

4k TVs start at 40 or 41" and one of those can easily replace a 2 or 3 smaller monitors setup, simply because you can arrange your apps in windows across all 4 corners and because of size of display + the higher resolution, they'd still be big enough to see what you're doing

they go for 200$+ for the Chinese brands and 300$+ for the big name brands and you need to have a pc or a laptop with an HDMI 2.0 port, if you tell me what you got I can tell you if it's going to work. this feature is not too common in laptops but if you have a desktop, most likely it's there or you can adapt from a Display Port to the HDMI on the TV

as for mice against carpal tunnel, I'll put a list of designs you want to look for

vertical
https://www.amazon.com/Wireless-Vert...397700&sr=8-20

slight variation in shape and the way you grip these, some are more "vertical" than others, depending on where in your wrist it hurts, one type will work better for you than others. I personally like this one because it's a bit easier to use than the ones that are close to a 90 degree angle. takes about a week to get used to one and then it's smooth sailing

trackball
https://www.amazon.com/Kensington-Ex...s%2C312&sr=8-3

there are cheaper trackballs, but I didn't much like any of the other ones I tried. most have smaller balls, which you can't wrap your hand around, some are designed for your thumb to operate the ball, which is fine for your wrist but then your thumb starts hurting. this particular model, with the included wrist rest is super comfy once you get used to using it, prob in a week or 2.

if you do a lot of writing and want an ergo keyboard, I can help you with more details, but if you don't type a lot , you don't need one, they're not a big deal

+1 for the Kensington trackball. I used the Logitech Trackman Marble Trackball Mouse for years which I also like, but made the switch to the Kensington when I wanted something wireless, and haven't regretted it.

Just wanted to give a quick update here my noobs, I ended up buying an Alienware AW3821DW on sale for $1199, and absolutely LOVE it.

The curve is slight and hardly noticeable. The screen is beautiful and easy to tilt in all directions. Love the fast refresh rate. But the best thing about it is the size, I spread 3-4 tables out easily, and you can stack two on top of each other and they still are easy to see, and I never feel like I have to move my head far to see the edges of the screen.

For anyone considering a 34 inch, if you can afford it go for the 38. This size just feels absolutely perfect for multitasking, and for playing poker (and I did test out a 34 inch at microcenter).

I never play this many tables, but you can fit 8 ACR tables perfectly on the screen without overlapping and the cards keeping there normal style.

$1200 well spent, and I've already almost recouped the cost of the monitor (I'm Mstermisty on ACR, play mainly O8).

Bottom line, the 38 inch monitor size is amazing for multitasking and multi-tabling. If you can afford it, DO IT...38 inch > 34 inch all day long! And I'd highly recommend this particular Alienware monitor, zero complaints.
