2+2 is loading and switching forums really slowly...I have Chrome and I reset everything but it's still incredibly slow. For example, it took about 20 seconds for me to load this thread to post in.

Anyone else having this issue? What to do with ONE slow website?

There's a lot more info needed. Are you using a VPN? Have you tried clearing all your cookies/browser history? have you tried different browsers?

What’s a similar-sized forum using Invision?

User Engagement & Gamification

^^ ugh, no!

So much great content gets buried with this "feature."

Dominic, 2+2 runs really fast on my computer.

2+2 is really fast on my brand new desktop, but super slow on my LG android phone recently. Text always seems to lag behind as I type on it. It could just be the phone. It probably needs an upgrade anyway, but I'm not experiencing similar issues with other frequented sites.

this is super serious. i'm being told that we will literally be forced off vbulletin. and this conversation needs to happen in multiple places, but starting it here makes sense because i think i'll get serious opinions.

2-Factor authentication is a nice feature.

I don't like the sound of "reputation system" though. I've been on forums where that's a thing and every time it just turns into this system where everyone is hustling for more rep points and people get super butthurt when other people don't give them reps. It creates a huge distraction from the actual discussions. Half the posts in some threads will be people posting just to say they repped the op or the op saying thanks for the reps. I hope there's a way to disable that.

There is probably a non-trivial number of 2+2 posters whose only experience with bulletin board systems is 2+2 or other vbulletin based systems. While it would be nice to tell these people to go back to their Atari's and let the children do what they want you probably don't want to piss them off too much.

I don't know what the community forum software market looks like since I mostly use 2+2 and a little bit of Reddit and Slashdot when I'm feeling nostalgic, but I think there are definitely some things new forum software should avoid:
1. Likes/Dislikes that hide or promote posts. This would essentially turn the conversations we see on 2+2 into curated "greatest hits" compilations of conversations, which is just going to annoy people. If you can't find software that doesn't have voting at least try to find some that allows you to do nothing but display the votes.
2. User defined signatures. Yes, we're all special snowflakes who strive to be unique just like all of our peers, but adding multiple lines of bull**** to the end of a post is just a waste of bandwidth. Let people pick cutesy avatars to show their unique.
3. Not hosting photos. While signatures are waste of bandwidth, storing pictures is integral to maintaining 2+2s past. Too many old threads are ruined because the photos linked to are no longer there.

As far as authentication goes, it may be interesting to all SSO from other services to lesson the responsibility 2+2 has on storing passwords. The problem would be finding software that allowed you to separate your login from your username so people couldn't dox you by figuring out your facebook or google login.

I'm not quite sure I follow. You're saying if someone knows a poster's 2+2 credentials it would help them figure out that person's facebook or google credentials? If that's the case, I don't think any forum software could fix that level of stupidity.

When a site uses Single Sign On, they often let the new user use their FaceBook or some other bigger sites credentials for that account. Part of the configuration is essentially determining how much information the service provider (2+2) will get from the identity provider (FB or the google) when they are set up. It would then be up to forum software to either not ask for things like real name or make sure it is hiding the identifiable information from other users of the site.

Might be worth looking at Xenforo. From a user point of view it works very much like vbulletin while being much faster (at least that's my experience on the British football forum I sometimes use). It successfully handles much larger forums than 2+2 (IGN boards for example, which has over a million members).

edit: here's a big list of all the forums they support. Seems like the majority of them migrated from vbulletin.

I'm wondering if it's a browser issue as I also use chrome and am experiencing the exact same thing with 2+2. I have a similar issue with one other poker website also but, the rest of the websites I use are perfectly fine and load super quick.
