The idea that animals think and have memory is specious. The animals can be trained to tap a plate a number or times by conditioning. A dog wags his tail when with his master or person of affection this does not display a "memory laden" event .

When a man becomes enamored in the presence of his loved one he does not do this from memory but it is certainly within the realm of feeling . This realm can be called the realm of the "sentient soul" to which the animal, to some extent, is also privy. Training of the animal is accomplished from out of this capability, not the memory.

Man, in his abilities or capabilities, is able to place memories into his body(s) through his Ego or that to which he ascribes to his individuality. the Ego is intimately involved with the "self awareness" of Man and in this we know who we are, we are aware of our self through memory.

There are some medical disorders in which the sense of self is lost due to an inability to "remember who one is" or to affix new memories into his being. The man can still perform his functions of living, even able to buy a train or bus ticket to another land, find food to survive , but be totally confused as to his position in life, his self awareness.

Man is an individual as to his thinking and memory, not so the animal. There is no individuality in the animal, as per example the dog, even though the dog lovers, appropriately, have an individual name for their pet. All dogs are alike but not so each man; it could be said that each man is a species unto himself.

Getting pissed is easier now days but this may help obliquely. The bee's hive will start to die off and run into confusion upon the loss of the bee keeper. this because the total hive has a "----" to which the individual bee is the outer manifestation. Likewise the lion, of the lion species, has a "-----" to which the lion is the outer manifestation. Place your fingers through 5 holes in a piece of paper marionette wise and watch them move, this is the relationship of the individual lion with the "----". This is from the "-----" realm .

Now Man, has this "-----" and is a "----" being, as individual.

Dogs do not think and everything is not everything for clarity comes about by seeing that to which man and animal are alike but also the differences. Man is not and has never been an animal.
This seems close-minded.
