The species is still here and on the whole doing remarkably well*. You should reevaluate the last portion of your statement. It contains some slipshod premises.

*See for example China in the last twenty five years. And I say this with honest disappointment. It makes the misanthrope lurking within me cringe.

Huh? All you've pointed at is that as a species, we've done a progressively better job breeding faster than we die. I doubt you're arguing that predicting and avoiding danger is extremely useful indivually and collectively, or that it isn't the main reason we reside atop the food chain.

It's getting closer and closer, all of you doubters. In the latest news Japan Accepts American Challenge To Giant Robot Fight.

The American entry: MegaBots, Inc MK. II

The Japanese entry: Suidobashi Heavy Industry Kuratas.

American robot weighs 3,000 lbs more but is not nearly shiny enough. I have to see the Vegas line before I bet.

Dang! My instict is to bet on the Japanese bot, but that American bot looks like it has hand cannons!

yes, this

1% will have access to cool technology as they will have access to energy
99% won't, and not necessarily because there is no energy available but because there is a Earth hard cap, already reached (and passed), on how much population we can sustain based on energy consumption.

AI will price out a lot of middle class opportunities (as it is cost efficient better then human labor). It will most likely price out everything up to middle level researcher also (human to AI is like horse to a car - while human and horses can survive on their own a.k.a. robust design, AI and cars can make more efficient work if there is 0.1% population to oversee their work and the environment is stable enough). Low level work will still stay for general population as it will not be in cost efficient to enter for AI - pluming f.e.

Realistically in the end you have 0,01% and AI on one side, and 99,99% hard capped by energy constraints. Conveniently AI stands in between to remove all possibility of mobility between 0,01% and 99,99% as it prices out 99,99% labor potential. This will be self evident as the first movers into AI field run simulation on Earth stability (maybe already done or Goggle reading this and figuring it better star ASAP).

Some notable branches of future reality include:
  • population control through using pills or genetic engineering to reduce the overall population back to sustainable levels -this would indeed remove the inequality issue
  • AI singularity point making so much of human work obsolete to fast that will trigger a wide systemic meltdown
  • AI figuring out that biodiversity is necessary because it makes life robust on planet Earth, but if you can predict all of Earth processes then biodiversity becomes obsolete - lions go into history books with the rest.

note on some short term thing: standard of living for the poor will also be improved enough to keep them complacent and docile is maybe wishful thinking on my part. It s more efficient to improve those living close to 1% (eg. living in America) and to segregate fully the rest a.k.a. China - this is the more realistic scenario

I don't know what we're talking about anymore. On beer, I'm still searching for a breakthrough to loving something other than brown ales. As to the wisdom of operating heavy machinery, AI or not, I still think there's benefit to using caution.

Again, what makes you think we've hit a hard cap? You said if we had unlimited energy we would eventually overheat, but do you think we won't be able to develop technology to block out/harness the sun enough to counter the heat we generate from producing energy? Taken to an extreme, if we completely blocked out the sun's warmth, are we still up against the cap?

Wherever you go, there you are. - Buckaroo Banzai.

Brown ales are fine. But subpar to many other beer types. Preferences, to echo BTM2's mantra, taken into consideration. I recently had a great nut-brown ale. Winner of some award in a regional beer brewing contest. Many standard brown ales tend to sweetness and too much malty flavor. IPA's are god's gift to humanity and should be consumed in large doses at every opportunity. Especially when operating heavy machinery in a dense urban area.

this is where I tend not to speculate (have no data or time to get it),but this would imply we control all of the Earth; blocking out the sun could impose a cost on environment

btw I was implying heat from using energy; 90%+ efficiency of electric motor is already here, there is only so much we can improve

I'll speculate we will control the earth when we have strong AI and enough energy. We can control heat by blocking a fraction of the IR light from the sun. This is not light used by plants, in fact it's harmful to them. We will need to account for the decreased stress put on plants from decreasing IR light. I'm sure there will be other consequences, and maybe the machines (human or AI) in power will prefer to just cull the population, or enslave us. There are plenty of options. Hopefully we'll be able to work something out politically that makes everyone happy.

Still one of the most remarkable things about otherwise intelligent people is how much they are in denial about what's happening to jobs and MMI.

Maybe I'm one of them. What would be a rough timeline of the next ten years?

The user interface of a mechanical system, a vehicle or an industrial installation is sometimes referred to as the human–machine interface (HMI).[1] HMI is a modification of the original term MMI (man-machine interface).[2] In practice, the abbreviation MMI is still frequently used[2] although some[who?] may claim that MMI stands for something different now. Another abbreviation is HCI, but is more commonly used for human-computer interaction.[2] Other terms used are operator interface console (OIC) and operator interface terminal (OIT).[3] However it is abbreviated, the terms refer to the 'layer' that separates a human that is operating a machine from the machine itself.[2] Without a clean and usable interface, humans would not be able to interact with information systems.

In science fiction, HMI is sometimes used to refer to what is better described as direct neural interface. However, this latter usage is seeing increasing application in the real-life use of (medical) prostheses—the artificial extension that replaces a missing body part (e.g., cochlear implants).[4][5]

In some circumstance computers might observe the user, and react according to their actions without specific commands. A means of tracking parts of the body is required, and sensors noting the position of the head, direction of gaze and so on have been used experimentally. This is particularly relevant to immersive interfaces.[6][7]

I don't know. What a rough timeline of global warming for the next 10 years?

We don't have to wait for something dramatic to happen before we can realise it's happening (even though we don't know the trajectory). Some might say there' no point worrying about it because we don't want to stop it, which is a fair point to an extent.

Imminence is far too tough a problem for me. History can tell us when the thing we knew was happening happened and even how it happened and how it manifested.

Not so tough as for you not to be in denial about it.
