Reading Applications of no limit holdem and stuck on page 35. I havent done algebra in ages. Its embarrasing but would appreciate help understand how to arrive at .667

(1-x)(1-0.03)^2 = .667

is this the same as

(1-x)(1-.03)(1-.03)

or is it
(1-x)(.97)^2

feel dumb asking but would really like to understand thank you

They are all the same thing. a*a=a^2 and if b=1-a then b^2=(1-a)*(1-a)=(1-a)^2. What are you trying to find out?

(1-x)(1-0.03)^2 = 0.667 means (1-x)=0.667/(1-0.03)^2=0.667/0.97^2=0.7089 so 1-x=0.7089 hence x=1-0.70289=0.2911
