LOL. the 80's. what a decade. i was there.

i am grunching, but the following attrocities should be represented:

huey lewis - the heart of rock and roll

dexy's midnight runners - come on eileen... thought i might have seen it scrolling through..

the undisputed champ. the "mike tyson" of horrible songs:

anyway, "we built this city on rock and roll" if i didn't do that link properly.

was just thinking of frank stallone's rocky song ("i am down but i am far from over")

still haven't seen a song i love yet though... on to page 2 and 3.

it's funny that this thread make me look up if U2's Beautiful Day is somewhat based on A-Ha's "Life in a Northern Town"... apparently it is but no money or anything changed hands. guess socialist/liberal rock stars held to a different standard

?!? Not just at the bolded. Following a very general theme doesn't quite count as plagiarism. If it were, we'd have stopped with Chaucer.

Your list is dead-on. Your people have your Heh Delilah.

Important that we used to "sing" about chess:

Also, we don't express disdain for Bowie except for in hushed tones. His fans will stab you. I will remain silent on Bruce Springsteen and Bryan Adams. Those fans are pretty much equally as much nuts.

My only guess is that the 80's were a botched attempt to pre-game the expected changes of the coming millennium. I mean you see a lot of what peoples' idea of space age looking clothes and synthesizer laden music. It seems like maybe in the 60's people wanted to be there and then. In the 80's people wanted to be into next year, to be ahead of the curve. Spiritualism and personal philosophy took a back seat to the consumer culture.

So what did the 80's people think was in the future? computers and robots and space or something? Not too many people predicted the size and scope of the communications revolution. The 80's seems very muddled compared to other decades or mini eras.
Dunno. Star Wars, Star Trek, Moon landings, Voyager effect?

Wealthy celebrities mocking some pleb's appraisal of their lifestyle as 'not working'. Singing their mockery before thronging crowds of similar plebs, eagerly singing along. That is the '80s.
