Old person finds something to do that invigorates them to stick about the planet for x more years. This is an old, old, old story. Moses probably heard it too. Replace Destiny game in your story with bocce ball, horseshoes, bridge, chess or reading the Bible or
ad adinfinitum. It doesn't matter, it is sill a threadbare story, trite, and so mundane that I find it odd that you posted it.
Alan Watts syndrome, perhaps. There is nothing new under the sun.
