Velocity is only mildly interesting, it is the vector that determines the outcome. Acceleration, however, is the nuts. Thus: My arm/hand combo always accelerates toward, and with the proper vector, in the direction of that glass of beer in front of me on the table.

BTM2 and Chez can elaborate more if they wish but my facts stand immutable, throughout the known universe. Stick that in your eyeball.

That's a good name for it. At one time I was convinced the best path for making a 90 degree turn was a quarter circle. I was assured by more knowledgeable people it was a parabola. After learning a little calculus I came to see that suddenly going into a circular path would amount to a discontinuous jump in acceleration. Just the kind of thing that would jerk a train off its tracks.

It's the same principle as adding weight to a string. If you do it gradually the string will hold. But if you jerk it suddenly the string will break.

I never jerk towards my beer; it is one awesome, smooth acceleration. Very similar to the smooth feel of the beer accelerating over the tongue, down the gullet, and into the tummy.
