Little to do about this new thing now that I wasn't doing before, or that isn't so simple that it doesn't take much worrying to accomplish it. It probably helps that I'd already recently become a part-time hermit.* It also helps that I have a strong sense of my ability to influence others to build fancy breathing machines, or shut down cities, or not cough on each other, or not buy up all of the toilet paper in a senseless attempt to do something, or double space after a period as is sensible to do.

I agree that there isn't much point in worrying about problems that I've got no power to solve,** but I was rather young during the time that the cows were trying to kill us and worried nonetheless. Also worried quite a bit about heights, despite the ease in which one can avoid falling off of cliffs that one wasn't going to stand near.

*highly recommended.

BSE had more of an impact on my conscious thoughts than swine flu. Which is slightly odd. I was very young and scared of burgers, though. So they began to market beef as 100% definitely not British to curb the fear.

It is basically simulations of the spread of pandemics, given different responses and sets of parameters. Very well done by someone (a team of someones actually) that at first glance appear to know what they are doing. A rarity in this world.

I was narrowly avoiding the curfew by living just outside the technical city limits, but the county decided they wanted a curfew too. They gave up a huge chunk of the utility of time when they also are limiting number of people simultaneously inside the food stores, causing food lines like some kind of Soviets. I guess daytime people rule and nighttime people drool.
