Of course its hard to imagine a world where calculus is the approximation and not the true theory. But the breakthrough is precisely that. If one can come up with math now that replaces calculus and eg metric functions as some special limit or corrects calculus on the extreme math that you see theory problems/divergences etc and makes the calculations of calculus less wrong in the extremes or finds a completely new way to do complete calculations or even forces computers to do them differently, that would be something.

Would take me 16 months, at most, to transform Brians baby into something almost resembling a six pack.

No highlighters would be involved.

Just a lot of misery, pain and self-doubt.

Re: SMP Life is Being Drunk -Random Content thread

It would take me far less time than that with proper motivation.* 8 months easy. Obviously, I'm assuming that my baby isn't some sort of tumor.

I'm really not sure how you'd transform my baby, given that I will presumably have access to my body during the 16 months.

Keep in mind that I was sticking my belly out as far as possible in the photo. If I had sucked it in, I'd easily look like I weighed half a lb. less.

*loads of money

Re: SMP Life is Being Drunk -Random Content thread

Of course thats not how it normally looks.

In terms of time, in my experience, which may not be representative, these things most often take longer than people anticipate. This is why many start, expecting to make rapid progress, like what you see in the infomercials, and then upon realising that it's taking MUCH longer, they give up. They lose confidence and attribute their failure to something like "genes" or any other cop-out. Very few get injured of course as well.

What they often don't see in infomercials and other pre-post pictures of people is that the very few who make drastic changes in less than a year, were almost in all cases, already conditioned for heavy lifting or had already had a history of being very fit, prior to letting themselves go. Their bodies had that potential dormant within. Muscle memory retains. Most don't fit in this category, and most think a lot more highly of their fitness than they really ought to.

You aren't taking into account that I was making a joke about you not being able to do anything in 16 months or 160 months or 1600 months, since I presumably will have access to my body. You cannot motivate me because you don't own the remote control necessary to do so.

As a test, see if you can make me sober tomorrow night. Start on your work now. I'm Pacific Standard Time, so you've got 20 hours to do your magic.

Re: SMP Life is Being Drunk -Random Content thread

You need to study the energy of the process. We take in with food about 100w*86400=8.6 mil joules or 2.4kwh per day. That is a significant amount of energy. It is the kinetic energy of a 20000kgr semi trailer truck moving at 65 mph if you can believe it.

Now imagine you started going up and down 2 floors through stairs for 6 meters height movement every 1min for 1 h. You would spend probably double m*g*h=80kgr*9.81*6=4700 J and in 1 hour only 564000J or 6.6% of the daily food intake energy. Are you kidding me? This is why it is so difficult with exercise. It takes both food containment and exercise.

There is only one exercise that works. What happens naturally as part of your day. To be working in some construction site or in your home in projects all day or basically any demanding job that has you moving your body and weights all day. You need to be working out as part of your life all day not as a break for 30 min or 1h. So probably what works is to use some heavy routine that is not super deadly boring and at the same time find a way to watch something that takes 1-2 hours. Maybe some process that you bike and use also your hands in the process while watching a movie or a series of documentaries of a entire 12-16 episode of some series that you have to catch up or education lectures that are not hard to follow about topics of interest that broaden your knowledge without too much focus effort required. Only then you can trap the brain into the process and not feeling deadly bored. Then you probably need to go up in protein and cut comfort foods, bread etc. Start eating mostly salads and meat and fruits.

They should make a device that you charge your laptop and batteries as you are exercising and stop only when they are done lol.At the same time you watch documentaries or movies on TV or play a video game that is powered by your workout including even the action within the video game! Then one has to calculate what kind of exercise does the minimal damage to the body because i bet this bs repetitive crap is doing some damage too elsewhere.

What else is there? Sex 24/7?

Scientific society to the rescue. You create a system that charges your devices and at the same time you entertain yourself and brain. The "addictive" educational action adventure interactive video game approach with amazing multimedia probably is the solution.

If it takes you no extra motivation to maintain your house, your car and your possessions, neither should it take you any extra motivation to maintain the one thing that largely determines your quality of life.

"I don't have time" is the adult version of "the dog ate my homework". You do have time and you do have motivation. What you don't have is the ability to prioritise.

Re: SMP Life is Being Drunk -Random Content thread

Yes i dont have the ability to prioritize boring to death stupidly uninteresting to brain activities. It's called high IQ super advanced complexity give me something more interesting or just kill me syndrome! This is why i find that also cleaning the house, washing the clothes, cooking and taking care of the garden and plants are moronically idiotic activities that i do at great sacrifice of my f@cking happiness lol!

This is why i am looking for a scientific way to defeat the natural urgency to give the finger to these boring to death activities known as workouts. Like a video game idea that you are immersed partially in action connected to using your muscles. For example swimming and biking and tennis are not boring activities and sex is even less boring. They all use a lot of energy!!!

In case its not clear, i find it more interesting to create a program that will simulate the random creation of 3 points in a unit square and find the average area of the triangle formed (~0.07) or its probability distribution function than vacuuming!

I find even more interesting coming up with proper math to avoid or predict the result of the simulation. Sex rivals all these nerdy activities but will never defeat them for good. In fact those nerdy activities will make sex better one day for mankind.

I find it a much better priority to focus on these activities and save the f@cking world from its misery eventually!

We need to a find a more imaginative manner to work out and maintain proper healthy systems and weight.

Re: SMP Life is Being Drunk -Random Content thread

Of course if i were in some immediate risk of losing health in a major way and i had to work out to death i would do it but i would definitely consider how to improve the stupid process to make it more interesting. I never in my life enjoyed exercising. I have always had a good weight height^2 ratio but one has to keep vigilant as you get older.

Have been preoccupied in H&F: https://forumserver.twoplustwo.com/8...nover-1711406/

Think the LC part here in SMP somehow fits better. Guess you could say I'm back!

Looking forward to your potential log though

Good to see.

Some basic and effective exercise recommendations for weight loss: light weights with high number of repetitions (12-16) per set; lots of squats and deadlifts; interval sprints for cardio.

The squats and deadlifts will help develop the core, which is the base from which power is generated, enabling you to shed fat a lot easier as you progress.

The sprints will tackle cardio health without wasting tons of your time having to jog. Jogging is a wasteful nightmare. Don't be a soccer mom.

Other high-repetition resistance exercises, particularly pulling exercises (for the back), will develop the muscle needed to really get that metabolism going.

For faster progress make sure to take every set "to failure". This means doing as many repetitions, each set, as you can, before your arms or legs can't possibly do another one. Then resting for a bit. Then doing the same in the next set.

For even faster progress, don't give the muscles time to rest. Remember - Time Under Tension (TUT). Most people at the gym don't do this.

The bench press is a good example but you can apply this to any exercise. On the bench press most people give their muscles just less than a second to rest when they've lifted the weight to the very top; they lock-out their elbows and during this time the muscle rests a bit. The key is to avoid this, to start dropping the weight back down before it goes all the way up; to maximise the time that the targeted muscle is under tension; to avoid locking-out the elbows in presses or knees in the case of squats.

Re: SMP Life is Being Drunk -Random Content thread

A good rule of thumb for training in general, and this is something trainers will never tell you because they're responsible if you get injured, is to be guided by the level of suffering involved. If you don't feel like you're suffering during your workouts, quite simply, you aren't going as hard as the next guy and you won't progress as quickly as you want.

Important: This is not to say that you should sacrifice form for more repetitions or heavier weights. Form always must come first. With good form - find a level of intensity that makes you suffer and when there comes a time that it's not making you suffer anymore, increase it; ad infinitum.

I must have fun, otherwise I will quit. Being one hour a day at the gym will give some progress anyhow, almost whatever I do. So going slowly is the smart thing in practice, even if not in theory.

Something is better than nothing definitely, and these things go slower than people expect anyway. Just thought I'd throw some important ideas your way in case you decide to speed it up.

No, to mostly all of this. As for building muscle, we know what over training is and why you shouldn't do it.

Take the most likely worked muscle groups a beginner would exercise: biceps, triceps, pectorals, and shoulders. Two to three sets of eight repetitions using dumbbells per group, twice a week, totals around an hour, if that, and produces results.

If you spend an hour in the gym, most of that time isn't spent exercising for the reasons outlined. And there is nothing boring about looking at women wearing yoga pants.

Aerobics or cardio is another story. You can overdo it if you want to.
Running is a mother****er, but only at first, and boring it is not. After a while, it becomes enjoyable and good for the mind. So you'll think about the documentary you watched last night, and many other things.

Speaking of which, 'Evil genius' is a must watch.
