A chemist, an engineer and a mathematician were all asleep in a hotel when several fires broke out in their respective rooms.

The engineer woke up, saw the fire, ran into the bathroom, turned on the faucets full-blast, flooding out the entire apartment, which put out the fire, and went back to sleep.

The chemist woke up, saw the fire, ran over to his desk, pulled out his lab book, and began working out all sorts of equations. Soon, he threw down his pencil, got a graduated cylinder out of his suitcase, and measured out a precise amount of water. He threw it on the fire, extinguishing it, with not a drop wasted, and went back to sleep.

The mathematician takes a match, lights it, and extinguishes it in a glass of water. He declares: “A solution exists.” and goes back to sleep.

The RGTers in the hotel next door gather and pray for protection from the fire. Later some of them say it was god showing his displeasure at the atheists, others rejoice at gods benevolence when miraculously one SMPer is pulled unharmed from the scene of devastation and chared corpses. On learning who it was that was saved they all agree that god moves in mysterious ways.

Bruce quietly lets himself out, and later writes a letter to the local news correcting them on the body count.

Chezlaw throws scotch on the fire because "scotch is better than water" but survives long enough to be questioned by police and his last words are an impassioned argument about them being far too results oriented.

Most people are oblivious. Completely oblivious. It is obvious and 50 years of personal observations by my keen scientific mind completely confirms this so fundamental fact. In the proper form/format a great thread could be generated about this.

It would only be worthwhile to whack the Pope if the election of another one could also be prevented.
