I noted your use of the above wonderful word (a favorite of Hunter S. Thompson's by the way) and if you would get on the stump and start preaching. As I will note, you are subverting the subject and think it is some reversion or throwback, that is completed wrong. It is no such thing. It is alive and well from our collective past to the present, and I predicted into the everlasting future. Humans are an animal. Most seem to forget this fact or try to sweep it under the rug. A shameful tactic - but employed by the British Labour Party and their lackeys whenever possible.

People are animals. Coercion and briery and punchisment and blackmail and education (so called) only work to a very limited degree.

Note the bolded. Here is a challenge - look up the crime statistics about who is most liked to murder you, rape you, steal from you, or otherwise abuse you in many and various ways. It is your immediate family, spouse, or other not-so-distance and distance family members. And friends. Greeting your family is a protective mechanism to help say - please don't kill me after dinner today. Please wait until tomorrow and give me a chance to get away.

Re: SMP Life is Being Drunk -Random Content thread

I appear to have reached my limit of free reads. How did that happen?

Anyhow, if you are right then people lacking in "social skills" are more likely to be crime victims, and this appears to support your point:

Just in:

People lacking in "adaptation skills" are more likely to be victims, overall.

People that refuse to wear more than one hat, eventually have no hats.

Actually targeting abusers instead of who they target is something available to adapt more towards.

Of course. We'd have none of those things if we didn't have, for instance, thumbs.

It makes them happy. Family is partly an extension and inhibition of territory establishment and maintenance.

Re: SMP Life is Being Drunk -Random Content thread

Hunter ended his life today, 13 years ago:

"Strange memories on this nervous night in Las Vegas. Five years later? Six? It seems like a lifetime, or at least a Main Era—the kind of peak that never comes again. San Francisco in the middle sixties was a very special time and place to be a part of. Maybe it meant something. Maybe not, in the long run… but no explanation, no mix of words or music or memories can touch that sense of knowing that you were there and alive in that corner of time and the world. Whatever it meant.…

History is hard to know, because of all the hired bull****, but even without being sure of "history" it seems entirely reasonable to think that every now and then the energy of a whole generation comes to a head in a long fine flash, for reasons that nobody really understands at the time—and which never explain, in retrospect, what actually happened.
[…]

There was madness in any direction, at any hour. If not across the Bay, then up the Golden Gate or down 101 to Los Altos or La Honda.… You could strike sparks anywhere. There was a fantastic universal sense that whatever we were doing was right, that we were winning.…

And that, I think, was the handle—that sense of inevitable victory over the forces of Old and Evil. Not in any mean or military sense; we didn't need that. Our energy would simply prevail. There was no point in fighting—on our side or theirs. We had all the momentum; we were riding the crest of a high and beautiful wave.…

So now, less than five years later, you can go up on a steep hill in Las Vegas and look West, and with the right kind of eyes you can almost see the high-water mark—that place where the wave finally broke and rolled back

"History is hard to know because of all the hired bullshhiitt" is likely my favourite quote of his.

The day he asked the question? Provided he is not in the outer solar system colony...yet to be built.

'Aether', imo, but since I think you're one of the best posters on the internet I will refrain from the snark.

Being rudely expelled from Manners School almost sounds fun enough to be worth doing.

The authorities disagree and have you in bondage, Howard.

aether-ether/

Snark is good. Sublime snark even better. But not as good as a Ribeye Steak, medium-rare.

Re: SMP Life is Being Drunk -Random Content thread

Aether still appears as a poetic affectation, especially in reference to the word’s ancient Greek and Latin senses

I have standards and they are lofty.

Well then, I guess we must all bow before you, Howard. The Limeys will anyway; they have been fully trained to do so.
