Had a guy splitting 10's at BJ today.

I remember playing BJ at Foxwoods years ago.

I split 10's one hand. The dealer, as stone face as ever, turns to me and says "Whoever told you to do that, SHOULD BE SHOT!"

Needless to say it was my last time splitting 10's that BJ session.

Alcohol is a hard drug. I avoid it except red wine with a succulent meal.

If you had a deck with mostly tens and K,Q,J left ie "tens" and only a few small cards or none and the dealer was like say 6, doesnt splitting make perfect sense and even doubling if allowed afterwards?

Not only you can get 2 20s or 21s but even if you failed the dealer can still bust even with higher probability given your "failure" to get 20s.

So basically if the answer is yes split at the ultimate extreme example of only tens left or a very rich in tens deck there ought to be a turning point in strategy to splitting after a certain very high count in more than 1 deck and some decent penetration and even on just some good plus count on single deck if lucky to find such a game.

I saw a guy hit on 20 and pull an ace. He saved the whole table.

I hit 20 once and caught an Ace bec it was 'see-through' BJ where both dealer's cards are face up and pushes lose. Although I've never played a BJ tourney I think there are times splitting 10's are a must sometimes in those. Anytime else the explanation certainly involves drugs, booze or some other incapacity. Plus it was an auto-shuffler so there's no counting. People be crazy which makes poker worth a few bucks to me.

I played at the Crown Casino in Australia the night of the last day of MCG test in 1998 while drunk and very happy for obvious reasons. I was sitting next to some superstitious chap who was very upset about other people 'bad' play taking his cards, saving the dealer blah di blah

I split everything including Ts. Definitely +ev. He even hit me a few times. All in a good cause as my old physics teacher would say.

Plus let me make a correction that came out stupid lol given what i was talking about, you cant double after splitting if you do it on tens, i was thinking of other cards that add up to ten or not even subconsciously in a rich tens deck with dealer 6 etc.

If you have no reshuffling it is still possible to get into a situation it makes sense though if there are other players in the table and they start getting low cards until your turn as last one to act. I mean what if they started getting 4,5,6,3,7,3,2,4,6,6,5 one after the other and by the time its your turn after several players you have seen a couple tens out and 20 small to medium cards and dealer has also 5 or 6. Even with reshuffling every round it has now become lucrative to play this way.

Stay away from the BJ, masque, that's my advice.

I have already made thousands from Blackjack online some long time ago.

Counting cards only gave me a headache.

Also, whenever I get on my high-horse and say that I have free will while others think that they don't all you have to do is reply: 'BJ, tho.'

There you go. I wait for the moment you realize all life is an endless sequence of random chaotic events that effectively build wisdom over time and advance complexity, and that none of these require free will and its actually pretty fair that way because it makes all of us and the rest of the universe responsible for all things that happen to each other.

I used to play a lot of BJ on trips to Vegas*. With my buddies. One of the best memories was playing with my two buddies at the Casino Royale - Marcus got two fives; the dealers up card was a bad one and we told Marcus to double down. He said "why not split" (we all knew basic strategy by heart but Marcus rebelled against "set play"). Anyway, just to rebel he split his fives and took multiple hits on each. As the fates would allow the dealer went bust and he reaped the rewards of his semi-ludicrous play. We all howled with laughter. Now that's fun. This was probably at a single deck table or possibly double deck. I'm sure it was not from a shoe - we rarely played at a shoe table.

*this was at least 20 years ago, casino rules on the Strip have changed considerably seen then. In Downtown the old Binion's was an excellent play to play and it was still single deck.

Apparently we're planning to bring in the new year with Negroni made with Prosecco (dry) instead of vermouth.
