Sadly, the fire you saw burned down much of the forest around the Eagle Creek trail, one of the best hikes in Oregon.
Sound advice. I noted that one young hiker had on shoes that were basically almost glove like - very close fitting, and they looked very comfortable. I gabbed with him for awhile and he stated that "one pound off of footwear equals five pounds off pack weight".

I hiked a great deal in the Columbia River Gorge when I lived near there in the mid-1980's, mostly day hikes. Did the Eagle Creek trail a few times and saw the famous punch bowl falls and etc. It will take years for the area to grow back.

I redid the Silver Creek Falls trail last fall and that is also one of the best day hikes in Oregon for beauty and enjoyment of the numerous waterfalls.

If we were to collide with the stupid planet they (stupid prophecies and fringe lunatics) are talking about on sep 23 in 5 days, today we would be able to see a very bright "star" in the sky, only order 10 mil km away, much closer than mars of venus ever. Furthermore its position would be moving differently (fast) than other objects visible to all kinds of amateurs. Even if it was r=500km size, the bare minimum to destroy all life in my calculations (10% of its energy vaporizes all the water of the oceans as an argument of order of energy deposited) we would still be seeing it now as a very interesting object brighter than venus or mars for some of the time we see them.

Inserting post here so Masque doesn't end up posting here three times in a row.

Well i have lots of wit in that case, accumulated at once in a superimposed state that gets very detailed.

And then there is no longer misery but a rebirth of virtue based optimism in synthesis.

But it is because of that very reason it is scientific society because it aims to improve and find these things and the other systems not so much. It precisely starts by recognizing that very problem. It is an open society that improves constantly and not accidentally because someone will profit from the substantial loss of others...

As an example it approaches the problem of traffic by optimizing driving choices and cooperation among cars and drivers to collectively defeat idiocy of narrow minded self interest and poor unimaginative choices that is the main reason for traffic jams being so terrible and not just a bit slow.

If you're going to continue to speak about it as though it's set of real ideas...Formulate the ideas, which would involve writing them down. Then critique them; try as hard as possible to find problems with them. Then see if you actually have any new ideas in there. Right now the evidence suggests it exists only in your head and as blurbs on the forum.

Have you added anything to the body of ideas with this post ? Should we go any further or are you going to give us something worthwhile; The critic speaks....

The onus is not on me to add to the body of ideas as I'm not an advocate. Secondly, I can't be an advocate, as there is no body of ideas, which was my point.

And, I'm not criticizing, I am trying to help. I'm not sure if you've noticed but scientific society has been mentioned enough as though it's something real, something that could be debated by two people.

Scientific society is a meaningless combination of adjective and noun, like "non-thieving strippers" - something that doesn't exist.

IDK about that. I let the idea bloom in my head, realize that it'd never work w/ humans in any conceivable way, and feel bad for Masque.

I don't think it's properly defined. "Science is great, why not apply it on a societal level" sounds good, but it's a meaningless abstraction at this point.

Ofc it isn't properly defined. But I can still imagine that he means a society where decisions are all based on rationality, kind of like how Vulcan would be run. Except we aren't Vulcan's so GL w/ that.

A society based on rational decisions would collapse, even if we were perfectly rational machines. It's exploitable by patterns of behavior that are irrational. There simply isn't enough processing power to beat superior non-rational algorithms developed by evolution.
