Jack Cohen. East End boy made a lot of money. Before the Muslims showed up and turned it into a ghetto. Some people catch the wave in life. If that's what it is.

This is odd, or not:

amarnath-pilgrims-bus-crash-kashmir

From above link:

NEW DELHI — At least 17 Hindu pilgrims died on Sunday in Kashmir, in northern India, when their bus plummeted 100 feet down a gorge, coming to rest in a boulder-strewn stream, the police in Kashmir said.

The pilgrims were on their way to the Amarnath cave in Kashmir, where ice forms a column considered to be a symbol of the Hindu god Shiva. The bus carrying the pilgrims slid off the road as it rounded a narrow bend and began to roll, according to local news reports.

Sixteen people were killed at the scene, and another died after being taken to a hospital, the police said. Another 28 people on the bus were hospitalized, many of them with serious injuries, according to a statement issued by the police. Video on Indian television showed local residents, police officers and soldiers forming a human chain to pull injured pilgrims out of the gorge.

So 17 Indians died on their way to worshiping an ice-phallus? The column would be revered because it's reminiscent of the Penis of Shiva.

The Trump justice department has instituted a new formal plea that defendants can enter at arraignment. Along with Guilty, Not Guilty, and Nolo Contendere, the accused may now enter the plea, "I don't see anything wrong with it".

Good topic for a RGT thread.

penisworship

Years ago (in the late 1980's) a friend of mine worked in Bangkok and he reported a phallic worship place near the hotel he was staying in. I thought he was joking. He was not. See link below.

chao-mae-tuptim-bangkoks-one-and-only-phallic-shrine/

From above link:

The Goddess Tuptim Shrine is located in the heart of Bangkok, on the grounds of Nai Lert Park Hotel (formerly a Hilton, now a Swissôtel) on Sukhumvit Road. The shrine is littered with hundreds of lingams, a phallic form of the Hindu god Shiva. Most of them are made of wood, with some made of metal, but palad khik are known to be made of horn, bone, black coral, and ivory. Some of them are even incised with special Buddhist inscriptions or have names written on. The inscriptions are usually in Pali or Sanskrit and are made by special monks who also perform the requisite blessings.

I seem to be developing a chilli "addiction", and modern science can't explain it. It's not addictive, it's not even a flavour, it's just something that induces a burning sensation on the tongue.

Quote:
While most scientists still do not quite have a handle on the human preference for spicy foods, the best explanation comes from a mechanism called "hedonic reversal", or "benign masochism". Something happens, in millions of humans each year, which changes a negative evaluation into a positive evaluation, like flipping a light switch.

It makes you feel something. The rush of feeling/sensation is addictive. It makes you feel alive to have your mouth on fire. You're like the guys who cut themselves to feel something, only with chilli. Or guys who go cliff diving. Falling isn't addictive, but the rush of changing sensations is.

Psychology can explain it pretty well imo.

You young ppl should eat all of the spicy food that you can stuff into your mouths now, while you still can.

There's also the other feelings you get from eating spicy food, besides just the pain. I love cajun spice, and it's much less painful to me than mexican or chinese, but it makes my face warm and clears the sinuses. Invigorating!

The observers on The Fringe were future beings who had evolved (or genetically modified themselves?) to be perfectly rational and non-emotional, thus their sensual perceptions were extremely dulled. When observing our realm they added lots of spice just to feel something.

Endorphins are something that people like. Capsaicin causes a release of endorphins.

It also is more interesting than porridge, and people like to have a certain level of arousal (too little is unpleasant and too much is unpleasant) which can be modulated to the upside by strong stimuli such as capsaicin.

I'm traveling. I ate at a small Indian self-order restaurant tonight, sort of set up like a taco bell. I wanted to order a cow's head boiled in yogurt and curry sauce but no such meat was available. Fish, chicken and lamb were on the menu to placate the carnivores that dared walk trough the door, as many dishers where vegetarian. I was the only heathen in the restaurant. I settled on ordering a spicy lamb, ground and made into a sausage. It came with rice, cucumber salad, a small of bowl of lentils and beans in a green curry sauce, and some wafer-type bread. Passable meal - the spicy lamb was quite good.

Sappy Indian soap operas where playing on the lone TV (Star Plus). The Hindu's being polite did not have the sound on. Almost everyone on the TV show looked as white as a Scotsman (or a resident of Mayfair) but had on the appropriate colorful robes and with red dots on many foreheads (bindi). Advertising for hip-hop shows added to the brutal mix of silliness. All the Indian patrons in the restaurant had that delicate brown to dark brown skin tone that is ubiquitous for most peoples from the subcontinent.

The Hindu's had a Sikh slave in the back cooking for them. I passed this off as normal and said nothing.
