Chez, you will be pleased to know that Las Vegas now has what is supposed to be a very good Szechuan restaurant.

You going to do a trip report?

I will. My son arrives in less than a month and we will go there at least once.

That would rhyme if I had a very strong lisp.

Very closely related to wireless charging is this:

For some reason I find this fascinating.

Why don't people wait until it is what it is to tell me what it is instead of telling me what it is when it isn't what it is yet?

Might it explode? Usually wanna plan for that.

However the most important question of all time besides the rest is, what is it?

They don't want to have any ports/jacks/w/e they're called but it can't be that they are going to have electricity fly through the air like lightning so I'm guessing two metal plates, one on the phone and one on the charger. W/E it is plz to be buying the new iPhone bec I have stock in Apple, tia.

wifi is a bit like electricity flying through the air.

You must be thoroughly enjoying Samsung's innovations in the field of spontaneous combustion.

Maybe think more like microwaves. If you put foil in the microwave, the energy gets transmitted to the electrons to cause them to jump around but there's no contact with anything and there's no electricity flying through the air between the magnetron tube and the foil. Except that it's a much more controlled situation... probably.

Edit: I know someone is going to pick up on this -- The difference is that there aren't actual energy packets flying around and hitting electrons to push them around. The electrons are pushed around by the oscillating magnetic field.

Like radio waves, if Wifi electromagnetic waves can move electrons in a receiver which gets translated and amplified for your listening pleasure, I guess they can move electrons which can be used to charge a battery. It's a big step up energy-wise though from a sensitive receiver to a battery charger. So the question is, how intense is this WiFi signal and does it pose a risk for people in the area? You wouldn't want to get inside a big microwave oven and turn it on.

Cover story in this month's Sci Am is about entangled black holes. Article is behind a paywall but here's the beginning:

https://www.scientificamerican.com/a...antum-gravity/

Something, something, entangled black holes therefor something something wormholes and entanglement are the same thing. Or something. So, would I be far off in thinking that this famous physicist is working his way around to explaining entanglement by way of a wormhole connecting the particles and therefor no 'spooky action at a distance' since there wouldn't be any distance?

Ditto. I love Apple. Start throwing those dollars my way.

I've never studied resonance but reading a little about it in Wiki it does sound pretty amazing. But it's not powerful enough to repeal the law of conservation of energy nor the inverse square law for distance from the source of EM radiation. So the question remains, how intense does the WiFi signal have to be to carry enough energy to charge the battery at a distance? And does that intensity pose any risk to people in the area?

Think of it like a magnet shaking back and forth. Are you afraid of magnets being shaken at you?

Maybe if you wear a pacemaker and you lean on the charger, you might scratch yourself on the charger. Maybe. Magnetic fields just aren't that scary.

Edit: I just want to make this as a side comment -- It's not a "Wifi signal." That's something completely different.

Thanks for that article. So it's really just two electrical coils close together with the oscillating magnetic field from one inducing a current in the other. High school physics. It's wireless but the phone has to be in the charging cradle. Why call it WiFi then? That seems misleading. I had the image of the phone being charged anytime you're walking around with it in an area that's got WiFi.

That's because he is often confused himself. Sometimes his drinking clears his confusion up; other times, no so.

I saw this amp under 50 bucks that turns any wired speakers into a wireless Bluetooth set. My old stereo set is going to have new life for Christmas. Just stream Netflix into my eyes already.

Anyone who isn't often confused has absolutely no idea what is going on.
