Didn't know the Mayas were Russian. Or alternatively had them hired for interpreting in the jungle.

As I say, Mel Gibson is not to be trusted.

I didn't get the sense of a barbaric race of people being saved at the end by good Christian saviors. I think he left it open to interpretation. He certainly ignored to portray the Mayas achievements in arts and science though.

'Brilliant Mayan artistic and scientific achievements in ceramics, sculpture, weaving, and painting, some of which were more advanced than European accomplishments of the same era, all showed remarkable artistic sensitivity. They developed an accurate calendar and complex systems of agricultural and water management.'

Brendan Behan's favourite drink was champagne and sherry. Happy St Patrick's day.

I'm going to an interview today for a 'white collar boxing' match.
There will be 8 weeks training 2 nights a week and the fight is organised at the end based on skill, weight and that. The event takes place in a local hotel and the proceeds go to the charity. I thought I'd do this before i get too old and regret not doing it.
They are looking for the fittest people though. I'm not fit, but I'm not overweight so we'll see..

Good luck! No better reason to pound on one another that I can think of than for charity.

Do you have previous experience, or is this a shot at living a dream?

Thank you
I got back from the interview.
I've no formal training (bar hitting a heavy bag in my house which I've been doing for years) which is what they are looking for with 'white collar boxing.'

It's a regret of mine not joining a gym when I was younger. So yeah it's a third life crisis you could say. ha. I'll have my fam record the fight if I'm chosen.
If I'm KO'd in the first you won't hear about it ; p

Anti-Nike slogan? I fancy my chances though providing my opponent is matched fairly, unless I receive a good offer to go down in the second from the local mob bosses.

But it's good to leave the comfort zone and try new things.

Protect your head from injury. Are you sure its worth the risk for both sides? Why not some other athletic challenge? However if its done right with protection and it doesnt get very physical and intense then maybe the brain is safe.

Good luck

For anyone who refuses to give up on their dream

(and i am not even a fan but i will give him this, he went for it and did it)

I like the 'sweet science.' Headgear is worn as in amateur fights. It's only 3 rounds at 1 and half minutes per. Though 1.5 minutes in a fight will seem longer.. if you've ever hit a bag for that long you'll know how physically taxing it is.

It was always in the back of mind as something I think I should have done.

Honestly, the reason I didn't join a boxing gym when I was young was because the only gym at the time was in a really, really rough neighbourhood. Ironically it's that same gym I will be training at if selected. An irrational fear now that I'm older. There are MMA, Muay Thai gyms everywhere now here.

8 weeks training, meeting new people will do me more good.

A few rounds with head-gear I'd guess is low risk. Jumping out of comfort zones is worth it IMO. That's a spice of life.

You should not waste your valuable time on this orb watching TV, much less "political spin artists."

Reading this book would prove infinitely more valuable and enjoyable:

You will be pleasantly surprised at how much more taxing it is to be in the ring compared to hitting a bag (assuming that your opponent is active).

What weight class are you?

I can only imagine w/ the audience, and nerves to boot. I stepped on scale this morning at 70kg = 155lbs = 11 stone. (One stone lighter than I was before I started walking).

I need to work on my cardio and have 8 weeks to do it. 4 weeks strength and conditioning, 4 weeks sparring. I was chosen today via text.

Do you train yourself or anything of the sort?

I have a heavy bag. It is excellent for both strength and conditioning, plus it is fun.

Oh, and the audience tends to not really be on the mind when some dude is trying to punch you.

My third favorite law and order cast member, if forced to rank them. Though I got more into serials like The Shield and The Wire, I would watch reruns of L&O and L&O Criminal Intent.
