Brag: My sister got a rare full ride to Harvard for her Master's program. She's going to Princeton.

At least my parents have someone to be proud of, but I never understood why she works so hard. I kind of want to hit her in the head, because, come on. This is not something you turn down.

It's not bad at all, but the Harvard name carries more weight and going there would get her connections I don't see her getting at Princeton.

It's not that I don't understand choosing a school on the basis of something other than sheer ambition. But she worked herself to the bone to be an ideal candidate. I just don't understand why she works so hard if ambition isn't her criterion. She's very motivated by what she does, but I can't imagine it.

Also, Harvard isn't in the habit of giving full rides. Eh, I'm probably too swayed by the idea of "the best."

So I'm going to be running a half-marathon in about an hour. I've never run any organized race before. I've never really run at all, even in HS, although I played baseball through college. I have been somewhat training for this, and have lost about 40 lbs in the process, and I think I will at least not die, but still somewhat nervous. Also its ****ing 38 degrees outside right now which is bull****, who starts a half-marathon at 0730.

My goal was 2:00:00. I thought this was a reasonable if slightly optimistic goal, given I've never run anything before, and the farthest I've run in training was like 9.5 miles.

I finished in 2:03, and am pissed off about it. They have guys who run the race holding up big signs that say like "1:50 Pace" and "2:00 pace," and when I got passed by the 2:00 guy at like mile 10, I sort of got demoralized and didnt finish very strong. Well, the 2:00 guy finished at 1:50, and if I had realized I still had a chance to beat 2:00 I think I could have shaved 3 minutes off. I assumed that I was gonna be in the 2:10 to 2:15 ballpark at that point.

But at least I didnt die, and a local bar had free beer for finishers so suck it.

Cardiovascular fitness is going to be a new priority for me.

Didn't you say back in the Lounge that it'd be ok with you if she turned tricks for a living? I can't remember what your justification for that was though. Must have been some high falutin philosophical idea though.
