My goal was 2:00:00. I thought this was a reasonable if slightly optimistic goal, given I've never run anything before, and the farthest I've run in training was like 9.5 miles.
I finished in 2:03, and am pissed off about it. They have guys who run the race holding up big signs that say like "1:50 Pace" and "2:00 pace," and when I got passed by the 2:00 guy at like mile 10, I sort of got demoralized and didnt finish very strong. Well, the 2:00 guy finished at 1:50, and if I had realized I still had a chance to beat 2:00 I think I could have shaved 3 minutes off. I assumed that I was gonna be in the 2:10 to 2:15 ballpark at that point.
But at least I didnt die, and a local bar had free beer for finishers so suck it.
