Of course they are doing their job right. They make 200 dials per day, follow the script and document their work. I bet they even read back your credit card number to make sure they did it right. Their job is not to make sure you aren't disturbed during dinner.

No different than measuring twice and cutting once.

Or doing homework because it is the right thing to do.

This is what happens when you answer your phone. And sometimes when you answer a knock on your door. There are remedies. Some options better than others. In light of not offending the sanctimonious moralists, I advise to stick to legal remedies and curbing violence to a minimum.

Yeah. It's just when you get the same call over and over again. On top of that, they're probably refugees trying to make hard currency in order to pay off some slum landlord. That's what they sound like, at least. If I were richer, I'd feel bad about putting the phone down on them.

Correct, Zeno. Charlie clearly isn't doing his part. Who answers an unexpected call from an unknown number?

Ummm. That is nearly the definition of them being conscientious.

I was standing in line today to purchase my ethically allotted six-pack of American IPA, sandwiched between two other costumers. The guy in front purchased four large buds and then asked for two shots of Jack Daniels and a pack of Marlboro lights. Must be a relative of Chezlaw's I mused. But why only two shots?....... you have four buds, so you need to spike each Bud with a shot. Poor thinking skills on his part (or a limited liquor budget?, an overbearing wife?).

The guy behind me had an 18-pack of Keystone Light. Ah, I thought; Toothsayer's brother no doubt. Things like that run in families. He also purchased two packs of some off-brand cigs. Well, it is only Monday so perhaps I should cut them some slack.

I once called British Telecoms nuisance call line to complain about a repeated nuisance call I was getting. The conscientious person I dealt with was a fair way through taking all the details before they realised the nuisance caller in question was British Telecom.

Just wanted to share that.

There are ways to block the calls, I know; but, unlike some, I'm not conscientious enough to have them in place.

4 pints of real ale chased down with a large malt is a decent drop of lunch. At least he was trying to follow the kindly advice I give to our disadvantaged cousins.

I'd be worried he drank the Jack Daniels first as you lot speak so funny but it can't make it any worse.

Your math is off as is your lexicon. Large beers are two beers in size.

Keystone Ice is excellent. It gets right to the point. Keystone light just doesn't make any sense.

You answer the phone when it rings?

[My Bold]

I stand corrected. He should have purchased eight of those little plastic shot bottles of Jack Daniels, two for each large beer. But I submit this is what actually occurred with the alcohol purchased:

He immediately downed the two shots of Jack Daniels on the drive home (tossing out the plastic bottles as he careened down the highway) giving himself a nice comfortable buzz. The four large Buds are for home consumption. Tonight is Monday Night Football and he is right now plowing though those four tall Buds while watching his team die on the field of play in agony. They may last till halftime but probably not. So he will have raid his own stash at home or send his shrew wife to the store to pick up some Buds to chug while watching his disappointments of the second half of play.

ah 'merican football, it makes sense now. I'd rather poke myself in the eye with sharp stick but I suppose drinking bud works as well.

When they call me from Microsoft Customer Service about my computer I tell them I don't have a computer. That seems to stump them. They usually politely apologize and hangup.

I used to watch it a bit. I confess I enjoyed the sheer Americana of it all.

Obviously I'm joking when I point out how stupefyingly bad and stupid american football is. Though coincidentally ..

Raiders # 1. Though for a long time they have stunk to high heaven as far as winning goes.

On a similar note more fans have died or been injured or beaten to death in English soccer matches than for American Football. And this is just from a cursory Google search. American football fans are lame and tame compared to the UK hooligans. So I cry Uncle. UK football is better. USA # 2.
