Yeah the better copy part was about the lack of the foreword i think on the original link (i am not sure what is going on actually but it appears the second copy is more substantial). That stain is very likely oil or water with some oil that has over the weeks/months/decades of original event(yes it is a slow diffusion) expanded. It sucks lol. You can count it has DNA evidence in it in any case, corrupted or not proper for future archaeologists that may be able to even tell from the scans eventually (imagine that!).
Here is a modern response to it;

Here is the original ebooks gate that has other books too

And here is a massive collection of just about anything book/articles/documents related;

Sometimes you hit some big databases by accident lol. Its best to download what is interesting just in case it goes away later. I am not sure if those are books that are ok to be available free or not. Some clearly state they are ok. But i am not complaining when it comes to education in any case and i am not asking questions either lol.
Give a laptop with solar charging and some internet connection to the poor of the world and watch everything change and become scientific society eventually.
Do not underestimate that link . Even that collection of american mathematical monthly articles branch of it alone is worth it;

here is a sample on the history of the exponential and logarithmic functions;

Happy searching/hunting of whatever interests you! Some of these typically are available only from inside libraries or universities but occasionally some are made free. Some are also very rare old articles or books (eg very old scientific american magazines.)
Look at this collection of physics books. Some are very classic must have ones;
(just wow actually at how big and significant in content this collection is. I had bought many of these over the years and some were only available in libraries)

See what it has on Hardy alone;

PS: See how the "stain" lead to the discovery of the entire database. Chaos theory in action. Probably all started by the Taxicab number and the London Zeno story lol. Which were started by ...you name it...
