They've no time to experience it. There are loads of future things for which to suffer now. So many that any relief upon nothing bad happening just a minute ago seems small.

Trusting that you have the skills to deal with bridges when you come to them might be alright. This does assume that you have those skills or can develop them.
The primary skill seems to be knowing that the sunrise or sunset looks pretty much the same on either side of the bridge.
