In all my life as a student dealing with bullies i never remember a simple instance that i honestly wanted to destroy the other side or took fun in trashing them. You can hit a person in a fight without aiming to destroy them as if you care for the ultimate recovery of the opponent.
In war you have no such choice. So dont have war then unless something much bigger than stupid pride or ego or near term gain of garbage superficial values is at stake.
I admit, CTE is always in the back of mind as a combat sports fan. Like a guilty pleasure in some regards. Boxing appears to be worse than the others e.g MMA. We had this discussion before I believe and brought up American Football, and pointed out how we are still finding out how dangerous it is to the brain.
There is a bareknuckle fight on this weekend, with a former retired pro-boxer headlining the show. In a sense, we have gone back in time. Boxers began wearing gloves to protect their hands, actually. Due to the structure of the rounds: there are less of them, it's debatable about whether it is worse or not than boxing. Superficially, it looks worse - more susceptible to cuts for sure.
I'll be tuning in, to see how a boxer fares against a mediocre mma fighter in bareknuckle, without the takedowns and ground fighting. We haven't seen this scenario before, you know.
Headgear has been removed in amateur boxing because a study was done, that suggested the headgear causes more trauma than without it. In boxing circles, the belief is that that the headgear was removed to make it more entertaining, and that it leads to more cuts which can cause an opponent to lose where they normally wouldn't.
