But there are lies that are never intended such as in science with false theories.
The pursuit of the truth is only a process of gradual revelation. You will have always some approximation of it until the final theory if that is possible.
So the ultimate objective is a better approximation of the truth.
Without the truth we have nothing. You cannot have a dependable thought process without the truth. If a society fears the truth it is because it has problems it needs to address. When children lie to their parents both sides have somehow failed each other or a third social structure fails both.
You can tell lies in order to protect a higher principle but you better be very sure you are not making your selfish gain that principle. Furthermore knowing what is selfish is not entirely trivially obvious always. But you can be getting better at i and recognizing when the higher ethical priority demands a lie.
Ultimately it is about not lying to yourself and the higher inner system that holds everything accountable across the entire system. Wisdom is what guides the ethical conduct. Wisdom requires effort and struggle.
Truth is something valuable that a free society must embrace and deal with its consequences responsibly.
Dont be a coward. Deal with the truth and defeat the reasons that make you afraid of it.
