Visited Freemasons' Hall today. Fabulous art deco interior, a style which seems to mesh perfectly, mysteriously, synergistically with Masonic symbolism. Happily, going by the Hercules Pillars pub opposite, they appear to practice none of the abstinences associated with other charitable organizations. Polite, clubbable, and with a bonhomie about them. Where's the catch?

Also the Royal Courts of Justice. The interior, although of obvious quality, does not live up to the craziness of the exterior. Altogether too functional. I was expecting something a little more claustrophobic and Kafkaesque. Quite why the British judiciary feels the need to dress in archaic, elaborate costumes remains a mystery, as any potential questions of mine were lost in the rabble enquiring about brass inkwells. Zeno with an automatic weapon comes to mind in such situations.
