There are open access journals. One that I read is the electronic journal of combinatorics. A few authors may even publish their own papers on their own website in addition to the journals.

Although I would like to get a regular job so I can fuel my natural poker ability (I do enjoy challenging people to HU match just for fun). Im always impressed by people who have time for poker and school because you really have to work at it to be a steady winnar and play when the fish are out etc etc. I certainly wouldnt quit school for poker.

Or I can just get some alcohol and forget it since things are already in motion.

Seriously, this place has gotten very hostile lately. Used to be if people were going to call you a moron, they'd at least be funny about it. Now it often feels like a competition to see who can be the most rudely dismissive of the other guy's basic intelligence - whether or not such dismissal is warranted.

The general use and abuse of the dismissive style and other examples given above simply shows a lack of imagination of the writer.


Cicero was a wise man; I read a biograhpy on him a few years ago and I have a few of his works, which I read with pleasure.

I have noted this. Unfortunately, I have been extremely busy with work and with other important personal matters which means I have less time to devote to policing the forum. I had hoped that intelligent and honest people would be civil enough to police themselves and thus limit my bashing of heads or flogging of miscreants. Obviously this only works to some extent; as is usual in dealing with the human herd, you are forced to realize only a certain minority are civilized. The rest are unruly cretins or cruel and ignorant people that poison and disrupt, whether by design or ineptitude it hardly matters as the damage is the same. Of course you must allow for free speech and the use of sarcasm and humor and irony etc to give free play to all. But enough of this, this thread is supposed to be for lighthearted fun and meaningless points while in a drunken stupor. This is getting too Serious.

It came out about 7 years ago and is a well researched and well written bio; brings Cicero to life - he is not presented as just some cardboard cutout figure. I highly recommend it.
