I signed a lease in December 2019 for 18 months.

Is this lease up in May of 2021? June of 2021? Or July of 2021?

When I google "18 months from december 2019"

I get "Thursday July 1, 2021"

However my landlord is telling me the lease agreement is up in May.

How can we be so far off?

If you occupied the place for all of December, then counting the months the lease gives you the right to occupy is

Dec Jan Feb Mar Apr May

Makes May the 6th and 18th month of occupation for the lease. Good through May. Out on June 1.

If January was first month of occupation then out on July 1.

I've never written a lease w/o an ending date and I've written 10's of thousands. Next time you sign something take a closer look at it than you apparently didn't when you signed the lease. YOU might just be the fellow who will agree to buy the Brooklyn Bridge.
