I'm a tutor and had this problem come up in practice with a student. I can't understand the information in the problem. I understand what the question is asking (increase in customers needed to maintain current revenue when a price drop is implemented after 4pm) but the information provided is unclear. If Michael has 40 customers buying $4 bananas, and he sells 130 bananas each day, does that mean each customer is buying multiple bananas? Or does 40 represent the number of customers after 4pm?

I think you're overthinking this. Just do the word problem thing and imagine that one customer buys one banana.

I don't see anything confusing.

$130 * 4 = (40 * 4) + (N * 3)

Ah thanks, yeah the question was very poorly phrased, but the explanation makes sense.

cliff notes: i think you need to know when the bananas are sold right now

i don't understand that question myself.

40 customers spend $4 for the banana right now.. he seems to sell 130 bananas. what do the other 90 customers pay? doesn't seem like that info is there........

if all the bananas are sold before 4 pm, then sales after that time are irrelevent.

if all the bananas are sold after 4 pm, then i think you just multiple 4/3 on the bananas.

ok, it needs to be written better........... 40 customers paying $4 AFTER the change is made.

so it's B.....
