According to the article, OP is correct.

This jelly fish
1. Can live forever. Forever is a pretty long time.
2. Is immortal. Eternal life is pretty sweet.
3. It can bypass death. Not being able to die is pretty great

Soon every inch of the universe will be filled with immortal, eternal jelly fish.

Being able to choose whether or not to ever die would be great, not being able to ever die would be hell.

FWIW, I think this is an amazing discovery.

From the OP web page:

"The key lies in a process called transdifferentiation, where one type of cell is transformed into another type of cell. Some animals can undergo limited transdifferentiation and regenerate organs, such as salamanders, which can regrow limbs. Turritopsi nutricula, on the other hand, can regenerate its entire body over and over again. Researchers are studying the jellyfish to discover how it is able to reverse its aging process."

Interesting, but this has nothing to do with Zeus, and everything to do with evolution.

One interesting thing to take from this is the possible ramifications for medicine. Is it conceivable that scientists could one day genetically engineer humans to achieve this same sort of immortality? I've read similar thoughts from Ray Kurzweil, and his and all thoughts on this subject have some pretty severe theological/sociological/biological and, perhaps above all, philosophical repercussions.

I've always wondered what possible evolutionary advatage there could be in Aging. And how hard could it be to evolve the attribute of not aging. Wouldn't not-aging clearly be advantageous for reproduction?

It gives the next generation a chance to test out the value of whatever mutations they have without competing with the previous 30 generations for resources.

Are you trying to tell me that Zeus evolved to a point where he could create eternal jellyfish? Brilliant!
