Apparently the Flynn Effect of rising IQ numbers has been in decline and it started in the 1970's.

Any ideas as to why?

The research paper is behind a paywall. From the abstract it seems to lean towards changes in the 'nurture' side of where we get our IQ.

The time of the drop coincides with when the obesity epidemic began. Caloric restriction correlates with higher energy levels/better ability to concentrate. Caloric restriction stopped being a "thing" right around that time, when the food industry started out-promoting the diet industry.

It would be fortunate if even one other country had similar data. The data in this set can be filtered by cohorts and family position, number of siblings, etc.

However, I don’t know how it could be sorted to reveal different nutrition provided to young children.

It would also be interesting to test for long-term effects of high sugar diets on brain activity - with the increase of sugar in essentially everything starting sometime in the 70s.

We've ran an interesting diet experiment on everyone for close to 4 decades. Researchers just now are beginning to put the pieces together. The World Health Organization has long seen the signs but no one cares about their recommendations.
