I do know exploring the ideas about simulating can lead to further ideas, insights and conclusions about "far out" stuff like perception. And, we already know simulation is quite reasonable to do and for purpose . We already do it.

Didn't read thread, but Musk's talk about AI taking over is nothing more than a sales pitch / pr move. A lot of people get ultra fascinated when hear about AI, but these days AI is limited to highly specialized tasks, e.g. chess, go, vision, driving etc. And honestly, there's nothing really "intelligent" or "magical" about these programs, they're just "standard" optimization or statistical algorithms, or some combination of both. None of these programs comes even close to constructing a being that would be considered intelligent or sentient. To do that, you would have to unlock the mystery of human consciousness. You can't write a program or algorithm without understanding or theoretically knowing how to solve the problem first.
