Was the XFL just an idea ahead of its time? Was the XFL just an idea ahead of its time?

Yeah I was a few tiers below even casualfan in those days but my dad was die hard and even he didn't watch, the strike just gave him more time to fish.

People don't attend/watch when they are mad and lockouts make them mad because players got uppity, ie players not sitting for anthems.

Quality of play is a bit overblown. There's a lot of different NFL fans, ones that just watched it as kids, frontrunners, because other people talking about it, because it was the only thing on TV to watch as kids and got attached to a team (boy would soccer/baseball die off if this wasn't a thing), ones that just want to see people beat their brains in for their amusement.
Hell, nascar is just a sport people watch for crashes, not high level driving. It'd be a demolition derby every week if it wasn't for how expensive the cars are.

Surprised XFL is about safety, I would've guessed their base would want it mandatory everybody with a concussion must go back in the game.

Interesting that he's full on with anti character, one DUI and you're out of the league.

Dunno why you'd announce today when you have zero teams and no idea what cities you're gonna be in yet but what do I know. At least he figured out that he did the XFL too fast, they didn't really practice much before the opening game. That said, it's a huge mistake imo talking so much about quality of play so much when you can't get anyone who's good enough to be in the NFL.

Also being anti-political; if anything I think he'd have a better chance of success making it political.

This has to be a giant money-laundering scheme, right?

Hmm...

Quote:
According to McMahon, the XFL’s first season will have eight teams located around the country and play a 10-week schedule.

The plan is to have the initial outlay of money for the league at around $100 million, which happens to be the same amount of WWE stock McMahon sold last month.

“I wanted to do this since the day we stopped the other one,” McMahon told ESPN. “A chance to do it with no partners, strictly funded by me, which would allow me to look in the mirror and say, ‘You were the one who screwed this up,’ or ‘You made this thing a success.‘”

McMahon says that they plan to have faster games around two hours long and they won’t have cheerleaders, players with arrest records and they will require all players to stand for the national anthem.

He talked about possibly getting rid of halftime, JFF won't be in the league since he talked about character, even a DUI means you're out.

I see what he's thinking but man I just don't see how you get people to show up if you're "family friendly" for sports. Most people who attend sports just go there to get drunk and yell not family friendly things at the athletes even though anyone who isn't an idiot knows they can't hear it.

2 hour goal is interesting, I presume less penalties + no halftime + run clock on incompletions might actually get there. No cheerleaders will be a bummer for some but there's NFL teams without them anyway. No challenges/instant replay.

He's gonna have a huge problem with travel costs if it's all over as all I got are like San Diego/Omaha. (nebraska will watch anything that's football) *looks up attendance from the last XFL* SF/OAK area could use one now that everyone moved out of there. Orlando semi-pro teams have always been there but never could stick. I''m starting to get stumped now. Chicago had the worst attendance. LA doesn't need another team now. Places like Memphis/Birmingham sounded good for newer football markets but neither were strong attendance back then.

So what 8 cities would you pick?

If I were them I'd have a redzone on their wrassling network and put individual games on whatever they can get.

It would get boring fast as other than Kaep they are all bad/washed up. Who really wants to watch Manziel miss open receivers by 5 feet. Sure, you might tune in a bit for trainwreck potential, but not for long.

As a similar example, look how the Big3 (3v3 basketball league with former NBA players, including a few stars). Initial viewership wasn't bad, but quickly declined as people realized watching former good players was pretty boring compared to just watching current good players.

Based on the details above I'd say this sounds like some weird PR stunt, and this league will never get off the ground

I do like the idea of a WR doing a snow angel after scoring a TD only for a cornerback to drop a People's Elbow on him in the middle of it.

JR could drop in some GOOD GOD ALMIGHTY type of lines when a TE does a leg drop off the goal posts onto a linebacker

My assumption was that the talent level would be pretty bad so guys like Kaep and RG3 would be superstars. I mean RG3 won the Heisman. He was a trash NFL QB but I imagine he'd be a highlight reel playing against scrubs.

Lol, Vince claiming the XFL will be non-political is about as real as the right's recent FREE SPEECH movement and Fox New's FAIR AND BALANCED reporting.

Vince will be the straightman saying I am just keeping politics out of sports and giving Manziel as the example of players he won't hire. Meanwhile, Trump will be the hypeman saying what he really means

Trump: "GREAT JOB by Vince, making his players RESPECT the flag and RESPECT our great military. Goodell has destroyed our once great NFL, SAD!"

Trump: "So proud of my friend Vince for keeping the THUGS out of his league. MAGA!"

The new XFL's strategy is completely different it seems. They used the words family friendly and safety a bunch. The violence and T&A angle isn't being used this time. Seems like now it's

Focus on faster games
Focus on less penalties
Focus on betting/gambling/fantasy
Focus on technology (streaming, etc.)
Focus on cleaning up non-football related distractions (arrests, protests, etc.)

So they're going the "family friendly" route now after the first xfl was the opposite? Seems like button clicking.

Yeah good luck with that

Also, Vince was apparently whining about how soft the NFL is recently, so I'm not sure it'll be safer

Fits with his history of killing dudes that are only pretend fighting

Apparently kneeling won't be allowed, so parents won't have to cover their kids' eyes during the anthem.

Family friendly. So instead of HE HATE ME, it will be I LOVE JESUS.

I do like the possibility of fans voting on trades. Bonus points if it's done during a game.

A Cleveland franchise with johnny at the helm with WWE style schenanigans? Hoooo boy that would be amazing. Looks like he is trying to have a serious league though which is a stone lock for failure.
