its counter intuitive but the 20k generally involves a good deal more ****ting than the 50k, so yes of course i am going to watch

I haven't watched one second of any event but I've enjoyed your posts, Baids. The race walking and women's high jump will not be soon forgotten. Did the big German win javelin gold and more importantly did he spear anyone by throwing it beyond the grounds and onto the track while some other event was happening?

If I was a javelin hurler I'd let loose a primal scream of "CUTLAAAAAHH" as I launched. It'd be hyper elite with German accent.

the massive german did in fact win but he couldn't throw as far in the final as he did on his one qualification throw

unfortunately crowd death via uncontrolled javelin is unlikely to happen, when the lads improve such that they start throwing dangerous lengths they make the javelin heavier and reset the world record. has happened a couple of times

some of the steroid freaks out of the former soviet bloc were throwing 100m+ at one point so they changed the javelin to make it harder

i think i figured out why people get involved in this nonsense

for most of them its a hobby rather than a career (they have day jobs except maybe the chinese ones and a cpl others), and unlike most super dumb hobbies like ultramarathons, crossfit, storm chasing etc, if you get good at racewalking you can legit compete at an olympic games which is awesome

and if you get really good you might even win an olympic medal for your country which is super mega awesome
