so turns out this was the worst day in athletics history. bolt's final individual outing, twice banned gatlin wins gold in the most important event of the games and ayana laps almost the whole field due to her incredible talent and christ knows what else. supposedly they had to keep the mic away from radcliffe...

Wouldn't have minded very much if Coleman had won, but it was pretty tilting to see Gatlin get there. **** that guy, 8 years off wouldn't have been enough.

First Swedish medal in the throwing events (not including regional championships like the Euros, though it's been over 25 years there too) ever last night, pretty cool. Shame to miss the gold by 2 cm, but I think he'll win more and throw much farther in coming years.

Also enjoyed seeing Tirunesh Dibaba taking the silver in the 10,000 metres. Bolt's reign was 10 years (first medal in '07), and this is 14 years after Dibaba's first gold in 2003. Obviously don't mean to directly compare the two, but more as an illustration that I like these superstars who can stay on top for a long time. Doubtful there will be a medalist this week with a longer span?
