Bird is among the most underrated basketball players (besides guys like George Gervin who are completely forgotten now), particularly by the contemporary mindset and poorly used "analytics". The only guy I've watched play who is clearly better as an all around ball player than Bird is Lebron, who does just about everything Bird did as well or better than Bird, and does some other things too. Jordan is overrated player, although certainly one of the best, calling him "goat" is as stupid as calling Floyd Mayweather the goat because you never watched Sugar Ray Robinson or Marvin Hagler because you're mother wouldn't let you stay up that late to watch violence. What was it the Pistons said about him? Push him left and force him to pick up his dribble because he can't/won't pass, and knock him down if comes in the lane. They beat him several years running doing that. Until they found him Pippen and the crew he was just a guy who scored a bit more than Bernard King.

Bird’s biggest issue was his healthy and MJ and bron have that over him in spades. Health is hugely valuable when you’re talking about the best.

The stats don’t show that MJ struggled at all versus the pistons except when it came to wins and losses. First year in the ecf he scored 30/5a/6r/2s on 56 percent ts% which is fine the biggest issue is the rest of his team was terrible while the pistons had a rotation of 7-8 good to great rotational players. Mj was ever better the next season when they lost in 7 with 32/7/6/2 on 57% ts%, pippen finally emerged as the second best player on the bulls but they were still too weak. In game 7 Jordan scored 31 of the teams 73 points. You can’t beat a very good team with one great player. Lebron had the same issues when it was the spurs in the finals or the Boston big 4 in their prime. Mj or lebron had to be perfect while getting higher than normal contributions from the rest of the team which typically isn’t sustainable.

No lebron doesn’t need the perfect situation every game but he does need some help to win some games. I’m sorry he can’t win 1v5 while Jordan clearly can 1vs 1 billion. Yes against gsw or the spurs, lebron has to play pretty damn well on top of his to play well to win. Lebron can’t literally have a bad or even okay game for his team to win. This year he can’t have a non great game for them to win, but you wouldn’t know that cause you literally don’t watch games nor care.

Shocked that mj fans keep taking this road. Both mj and lebron had elite squads when they won titles and likely less than elite (and even bad squads other than them) when they didn’t. Lebron with a healthy love and kyrie had a pretty elite squad, kyrie is gone for pennies on the dollar and love is playing hurt so I don’t think his current squad is that elite. His squad was also pretty elite when wade and bosh were healthy, but that eventually faded. I Guess I’d recommend for lebron to stop pairing himself up with injury prone players but that would mean he can’t goto philly (embiid, fultz, Simmons) or Boston (kyrie, Heyward) or pair up with kawhi or Pg.

Bulls were an elite defensive squad and great but not all time offensive squad. Cavs have had great offensive runs even this season but their d isn’t nearly as good. Heat had a pretty good d and good O.

Cavs during their first run were just built poorly for the playoffs and were like the raptors where they did well in the regular season but struggled in the playoffs against better teams. You need 2-3 stars preferably 3 and mO Williams, Hughes, over the hill shaq and Ben Wallace aren’t stars.

Despite The bulls obviously being devoid of talent, they have 4 of the top 20 os all time by Orating during the 6 year title run and 4 of the top 10 srses all time (post 1973). Cleveland has been in the 30-50 range in orat the last 2 years with much worse Ds and SRSs. Miami when they won was even lower offensively but much better defensively than the Cavs.
