Wade and Bosh weren't anywhere near all-star caliber players by this point in real terms. That same team minus Lebron plus Dragic (for 26 games), Deng and Whiteside, still won just 37 games the following year.

This might be the dumbest post in this thread. The two greatest competitors I have ever seen in all of sports--like competitive to a psychopathic degree-- were Isiah Thomas (original) and Michael Jordan (Both terrible human beings no doubt). The idea that Jordan wouldn't use the knowledge available today to "invest in his body" to gain/maintain a competitive edge is beyond laughable.

The Bulls' offense, led by MJ, was bad that series and not the reason why they won the series. Lucky for MJ, their defense and rebounding, led by Pippen and Rodman, were much better and that's how they won a close series.

But it is stupid. Those numbers are cherry picked because they look good for LeBron. And if you have a 50/20/7 night, you don't qualify? wat?

And they're averages. I mean in that 30 game period, LeBron only had those numbers on 4 occasions in a game. 4 out of 30 games. When people use terms like "averages", it feels like "Oh, he did it 30 times". Jordan only did it 10 times or whatever. It shows comparing numbers in an individual game compared to someone's averages is stupid.

And, yes, I realize I was being a smart-ass pointing out the Rodman comparison to prove a point. But let's use a real one...

Like, if I said that in the 1990 playoffs MJ averaged 37/7/7/3 in 18 games. While LeBron has only done that once in his last 30 playoff games (I couldn't be bothered counting them all). Makes you think doesn't it...

No it isn’t. This is a guy who showed up to playoff games hungover and was forced to retire due to gambling addiction. Anything is possible but given the info we know about MJ I don’t see why he’d change his degenerate ways.

Because he knew he could do that and still win. If he was unable to win while doing that hed have changed up to make sure that he did win.

So.....does that mean that LJ is a better all around player?

Lets put the stat stuff aside - everyone could argue that from different angles forever. Can you actually say that after watching both MJ and LJ play BASKETBALL that MJ is a better complete BASKETBALL player?

I love how everyone is praising Lebron for his bulk stats. When you play GM and torch your roster in order to fit your game, you may need to be a ballhog when it doesn't work out.

Point well taken. Quick back story. During the MJ era I loved his game and I knew he was the best of all time. Back then there really were no others to dispute that with. Then along came this HS phenom in Ohio (where I lived) and all we heard was how this kid was going to be the next MJ. He even spent time in the summers talking to MJ about how to handle the press, expectations and business. His whole being was offensive to me. His whole persona was so well scripted - especially for a HS kid. I wanted nothing of it. I was all-in with MJ. Even though I never really followed the NBA during the end of MJ's career and especially the beginning of LJ's career, I still believed in MJ as the best ever. As my kids grew up and kept pounding me about LJ I started watching a little bit of the NBA playoffs. To this day that's all I watch. But as I kept seeing LJ play it was apparent that he could do, and did do, things no one else could do as a package. Even as he is aging he can still do it. So at 58 years old and admittedly a passive NBA fan - I have never seen a player better than LJ in all phases of the game.
You are right - we can argue either way - MJ or LJ and probably come up with stats on either side. But to me and my eye test, LJ is the best BASKETBALL player ever. (side note - his persona is still a tad much for me...but that is a get off my grass perception I guess)

Lebrons going to switch to his fourth different team this summer. But no matter where he goes, he always needs moar help. You'd think he'd be better at choosing teammates by now after 15 years of not enough help.
