Agree about the crowd. Way too many idiots needing to add their signature bit of babble a millisecond after the club face connects.

And I love my country but save shouting USA for the Ryder Cup.

As said above, the Masters does it right (no matter how many ‘boomers lol’ and ‘get off my lawn’ weak sauce is thrown at them).

The course: I have no problem with the conditions. The greens were softer than normal but still small and the lanes were surrounded by healthy rough. As someone who has lived on the Central Coast a few times I loved seeing it the way it rarely is during Open season - calm. Much more like the fall when it’s at its best.

Two golfers rose above a field with incredible talent and made the shots they needed to, they clearly were the two best this weekend. And then one made the shots on Sunday to get a decisive win. Some really great golfers could not keep up with them. Can’t believe people are bent about that.

The problem with the USGA philosophy of tricking things up to identify the best golfer in world, is that they can't ensure that the decisions they make will in fact separate the best from those a tier below.

There has been a lot of randomness over the years on who has and has not been hurt by certain things like pin placements and green conditions.

I know the USGA seems infatuated with total score being near par, but as a fan I want to see good shots rewarded and bad shots punished. Pebble Beach did that with the thick rough and the small greens. So, I don't care whether there was no wind and we got the -13, or whether it was windy and we got -3.

Was still a great tourney.

The winner was literally wearing shoes covered in the flag.

I don't really know what I'm trying to say but maybe it has something to do with the USA cheering.

I can't remember a US Open setup in such pristine condition as this week. Oakland Hills 1985 was close.
Screw Oakmont. They ruined the course by cutting down those 15,000 trees. They should get shamed and banned from holding another USGA event until they fix the course. I'm gonna be pissed if they actually go back there for 2025 as planned.

Shinnecock staying in the rotation is also absurd. The course was a joke the last two times they went there.

Pebble was great this year. Bad luck about the lack of wind and soft conditions but the course looked wonderful.

Kid should have gotten his ass beat. I wouldn't stand for that filth if I was near or around him, would've called him out hard and made a scene.

filth? i didn't know what to expect when i clicked play, but this is nothing.

the "safe space" mentality among some of us has become too much.

You mean the trees that were added by dumb ass green committee after the course was originally built?

Yep, those glorious trees which were around for 90% of the course's existence and many US Opens. The stated reason by the jerk who cut them down is ridiculous, too. Trees and golf courses go along just fine.

Course opened in like 1904 or 05. Tree planting started in the 60's. They started removing trees right after 94 Open. The original intent of the architect was nothing to do with a tree lined parkland course.

Some trees are not the end of the world in parkland style course but trees and healthy grass do not mix and 95% of US courses would be better with taking out many of the trees on the course. That is why courses in the northeast have to have giant fans around greens on tree lined course because they block air circulation that is a massive key to healthy greens.

I'm sure Shinnecock is lots of fun to play if you're a standard ******* finance bro member with a handicap between 5-10.

It sucks as a US Open venue. Just like Merion, just like Pebble. Stop forcing obsolete courses down our throats.

Why the hell hasn't Kiawah hosted one? No need to trick it out, get any wind at all and that would be appointment TV.

Kiswah is a PGA course. The PGA is coming back there in two years.

I hope you're not suggesting Erin Hills or Chambers Bay.

Pebble Beach has aged very well. They can still convert a par 5, with this week's perfect scoring conditions the winner would still be a respectable -9.

They really don't have too many crazy pin positions there, except for #4 and #14. The course is beautiful, nobody complains, and it ties to history.

I hadn't really heard much about Gary Woodland except for the video posted above, but I was seriously impressed by how he kept his cool with Koepka chasing him down.

Awesome last hole.

Respect, and a well deserved win!

I knew Gary in college, we weren't best friends but hung out a little bit because my roommate grew up with him and was on the golf team with him. He's a genuinely good guy and that clip with the little girl isn't acted.I don't think I ever heard anyone say a bad word about him. I have no idea what his college career was like because he never talked about it, but he was obviously one of the better players in the Big12. He's had a rough couple of years, his wife was pregnant with twins and miscarried one and the other one barely made it. She's pregnant with twins again (what are ****ing odds of that). He's had some injuries and tough breaks on the course. I couldn't be happier for him.

Likewise. Dood was caught on video being an immature douchebag. In case some haven’t noticed, over-reacting to a provocative tool is usually exactly what they want. The caddy’s dismissive gesture was spot-on.

Lol - imagine sharing that clip to show how cool you think you are.

He's a genuinely good guy.....
Listening on sports radio yesterday, it wasn’t hard to hear that he is a genuine good guy who other pros were glad to see finally get over.

Also cool was listening to all the NoCal golfers on the call-in shows saying the 3-wood(14), wedge(17) and putt(18) were already part of Pebble Beach lore.
