They don’t compete though. Competing would require the possibility of winning a game. Look at the last few world cups where the US made it to the knockout stages. We simply defend for our lives and rely on goalkeepers to make miraculous save after miraculous save to even keep us in games.

theres enough real complaints about this current cluster**** without ******ed hyperbole

anytime your take about sports involves a team/player having "no possibility" or being "100%" to do something that is in actuality just a standard underdog/favorite situation then it is probably dumb

Re-watched the goals and perhaps I was a little hard on Timmy on goal #2. It was knuckling much more than I thought.

Gonzalez's effort on goal #1, however, just gets worse with each watching.

Gonzalez never should have been on the field

What a travesty

Maybe if everyone boycotts the NFL money will start to flood into soccer and all of our sick athletes will play that instead.

Let's just not forget that "the entire system needs to be rebuilt" includes immigration policy that prevents kids from moving to europe as minors... It ain't happening.

USA lacks urgency skill and strategy.

The MLS is awful...I go to Galaxy games a few times a year with my son and his friends...we have a good time, but the soccer is ****. (not just this year, when they were dreadful).

There was a good article about US player development in the guardian...linky:

https://www.theguardian.com/football...world-football

We live in LA...my son plays club (mixed race club)...however, whenever we are going to play a Latino club, he knows the chances of winning are zero. Why aren't these youth players being developed?

Such a sick day. Prob like 2% chance of finishing 5th at the start of the day.

Just so dumb.

Youth Soccer isn't meant to be a development system for the USMNT. Whether it will become that in the future is a discussion worth having.

If your son is playing the Latino kids in a sanctioned league, they are being developed.

The very most recent evidence contradicts this.

Sad, but true. Unfortunately, I was not the least bit shocked about this.

I was thinking about this, too. It would have been a nice emotional hedge to put $100 on a Honduras, T&T and Panama parlay. Although, that would have felt like lighting money on fire before the games started.

Betting Odds (Vig Free Prob.)

Costa Rica -129 (54.71%)
Panama 418 (18.75%)
Draw 266 (26.54%)

US -368 (76.71%)
T&T 1471 (6.21%)
Draw 471 (17.08%)

Honduras 155 (38.10%)
Mexico 208 (31.54%)
Draw 220 (30.36%)

Based on the vig free pinnacle lines the US was .1875 * .0621 * .381 = .44% to finish 5th place.

And you could have gotten 206 to 1 on a parlay.

It honestly seemed like they just weren't interested. It was one of the weirdest sporting events I have ever watched.

And as ****ty as everyone felt at halftime, the odds of the US finishing 5th after halftime were probably not much higher than before the game given Mexico and Costa Rica were up 1-0 at the half.

I thought that, as a Michigan football fan, nothing could top the Horror of 2007. This did it. I cried today a bit. I haven't done that in sadness over sports since the Colts lost the AFC Championship in 1995.

Wow. I figured it was a couple %, but less than 0.5% is crazy. What a day.

They don’t have money, that’s why they aren’t being developed.

Well, you’re totally wrong about that. US Soccer developed the Development Academy structure just for this purpose. In order for club’s to be a DA club they have to pass certain standards set by US Soccer. There are also many US Soccer youth national team scouts whose job it is to watch these games.

The one and only reason that the DA was set up was to provide a pathway to the national teams.

Do you have a Trip Report? I read the Panamanian president declared today a national holiday - yesterday must have been pretty wild!
I was in the old city (casco Viejo) which was pumped up but not *that* crazy. A few friends tried to head into downtown and basically just got stuck in a pile of cars honking and partying in the middle of the road lol.

We also kicked some Panamanian ass at bar trivia so USA still #1 in my book.

To top it off video replays show that the Panama phantom goal that got them past the US in the standings never went past the goal line.

Not that it excuses the US loss. Strategically, considering the circumstances, USMNT should have chosen to play a heavily defensive style of soccer for that one game.

Russia and Fox Sports and FIFA are also taking a big hit here too along with US soccer.

sigh
